I think the question is what is defined as a furry? Like if someone puts on a freaking Smokey the Bear or Mickey Mouse suit or whatever to entertain some kids at the disney world or a party is that person considered a furry? That person would technically be putting on a fursuit, just one of a popular and recognized character that is loved by children and such.

(Also on a side note do catgirls and all those other types of humanoid types Japan comes out fall into the furry category or is that just its own thing)

Catgirls from Japan are part of the Neko fandom

that's basically a human with animal like physiology

whereas a furry is an animal with human like physiology

and a brony is, well, a pony with a combination of a furry and its own concoction

Luigi became pond hopper and a goomba became Snowtail Arctic fox wolf

all I remember from a Dorkly video but yeah they can be weird as fuck

I dislike when a furry or brony corrects me when I use either term as a blanket for the whole subset of people. My sincerest hollow apologies for not knowing the "difference" between a brony and a furry. They're the same in my eyes.

Other than that, as its already been said to ad hominem in this thread, do what you like, just don't shove it in my face. I know plenty of people who enjoy that type of stuff online and I don't mind them.

you say that as though it actually draws lines and clarifies things lol humans are animals to start with anyway.

anyhow i guess it's not particularly relevant just funny to draw arbitrary lines about what qualifies as a furry. although baloo's post right above me is like 'hey i'm choosing to be a dick unnecessarily when i could quite simply not use the wrong word LOL' so i guess it's sides to everything eh

i'm friends with a guy who's a furry and like he's a cool guy. sexualising animals isn't a good idea. honestly i don't particularly care if you're open and public about being a furry, not that i have ever encountered anyone who is IRL (which makes all the 'don't shove it in my face' posts a bit weird). i would rather people were open about liking to draw animals as if they were humans than if they were openly bigoted; and i know which one is vastly more common lol.

I understand why people do it, but I don't agree on it, mainly on the idea of "Fursonas"(?). They're practically you if you were an animal. For making characters in general, it's better to make them NOT a copy of you, since that gets quite boring.

The majority of furries are not furries because they have a fetish. They are furries because they are fans of media that has anthromorphic animals. Animals with human qualities. Only 5% of furries are in it for the fetish.

That number feels absurdly low, going by my experience with them. And honestly, I can understand the fetish part more, since you don't have as much control over what turns you on, and I'm not in the place to judge someone over their sexual preferences.

It's the Undertale "So Sorry" situation all over again. The game is full of anthro animals and monsters, yet people freak out over So Sorry being furry. It's like when people freak out over gays, races, etc. We are all human, people who hate on furries, bronies and so on need to get their heads out of their spoiled asses and realize this is not their world. We all live in it, with different ideas, religions, races, and beliefs.

There's tons of other examples, from not just Undertale but other games. Sonic, Pokemon, Mario; all have anthro animals in it. Yet, as soon as somebody draws their own, the entire world seems to split apart on the internet. I'm a furry. I don't dress up, but I love the artwork, and in particular the porn. I don't shove my ideas in others faces, so why should non-furries? It's a 2 sided coin. Those of you who can't stand the ideas of furries, keep to yourself. They hate you as much as you hate them. And yes, I dislike butterdragon's art, but I respect his opinion and right to donate his hard earned money to Undertale during the startup, and to draw his fetish. I have mine as well.

Didn't expect this to go full rant.

Oh well.

just so you know i stopped reading when you compared people disliking furries (often for the fetishization of animals which is in itself sort of fucked) to discrimination on the grounds of race or sexuality cause that is ludicrous and childish.

Discrimination is disrimination. Don't sugarcoat it. You also seem to be quite rude, as you didn't need to point that out.

He didn't need to point out your logical fallicy? Are you mental? He certainly wasn't rude about it either.

You are comparing disliking someone else's hobby to disliking someone for some thing they cannot control. And You use a fucking videogame as a form of evidence to prove your point? You are childish and have no idea what you are talking about.

yes, and words are just words and things are just things but your statement is deeply reductive and useless as far as describing accurately the ways in which people suffer for being furries as compared to the way in which people suffer for their sexuality/race/gender/whatever. it's a specious and unhelpful comparison that only serves to suggest you have either absolutely no conception of how severe and limiting discrimination can be or that you are seriously deluded as to how much people suffer for being furries.

Just flew over you guys' heads didn't it? Discrimination as a whole is the main reason for all of this, from racism, to religious arguments, to furries.

I was using undertale as an example because it has been directly affected due to the inclusion of so sorry and the backlash of furry hating individuals. The fact that you so easily pass off my argument and call me childish because I use a recent example means you need to look at your own judgment. Want me to use another example? How about when there was a convention and someone intentionally released chlorine gas?

You can't just pass the word discrimination off, it perfectly describes the situation and topic discussed here.  Perhaps next time, think and follow some logic instead of calling people childish, deluded and mental.

Think the term you're looking for is stigma.

i haven't objected to your use of the term discrimination. i have objected to your comparison with other much much much much more important, severe and systemic forms of discrimination as though they were equivalent or useful comparisons instead of needless attempts to make it seem like furries are actually discriminated against with anything like the regularity and severity that the groups you identified are.

i think it's ironic that you would suggest that something has gone over my head when you have either not understood or chosen not to address my point at all.

How?

can you be so anti-social that you see yourself as a imaginary creature?

I wanna clarify a bit more on this, I don't mind people who have their profile pic as a furry but I can't wrap my mind around people who say they are romantically and sexually attracted to one of the MLPs or say they are a wolf and act like they are.

Most likely in the same aspect that a large % think that cosplays with bunny ears (Playboy bunny) or cat ears, or such is cute.  Another thing to consider is anatomy as there are a large number of consumers who enjoy animal based 'toys' as the designs and functions of other animals are exotic and can hit sweet spots for males and females that Human anatomy designs cant, though very very very few would actually consider using a real animal as its both dangerous and highly illegal (Bad Dragon toys pretty much cover this part).

In all though, there ARE way weirder things out there, such as those who desire sexual relationships with their cars, or those who are into necro....which is just plain out wrong as hell.  The world itself is a pretty messed up place in general, just stay in the shallows and avoid the deep end of the darkest recesses of fetishes.

people have the right to do what they want with themselves, just like people have the right to avoid you or judge you if they dont like it

How about, you stop pretending to be more of a child, grow up and be an adult. and GET a job.

This is a very awkward statement disregarding the fact that most users of this forum either visit here in their free time or are teens still undergoing full time study shouldn't you be at your "job" instead of these forums?

If you dont have anything constructive to add you can just ignore it than to well...try starting a flamewar with a bunch of kids :L

In this topic, I don't see much "discussion" but more "drama and hate".

I'm a furry (no shit) and I personnally don't like anthro much (on some points). I also identify as an human, since I'm human. My "fursona" is only used as avatar and for some occasional roleplay sessions.

But hey seriously, yes there are few weirds, creeps and other cringe people in the fandom, but you can't deny that this community does a TON for charity :

32K € for animal chelters - https://twitter.com/eurofurence/status/640548341407969280

Crowdfunding to help a member of the community that have been stabbed -

History of charities at Anthrocon - http://www.anthrocon.org/charity

But keep disrespect the community, that's none of my business.
