They approached me about a month ago to buy an item with PayPal. Anyone with common sense would realise its a huge risk trading that person. They come out of nowhere all of a sudden, (Check steam account creation date: https://steamhistory.net/id/76561199528694238 - Created on July of 2023) and had little to no cash related rep, (Why even take the risk...?) as well as random spikes in inventory value (Could be gambling, fencing stolen goods or what not. Overall fishy)   There are numerous other red flags that I picked up on at the time they approached me, but can't recall at the moment. Feel free to add to the list of red flags an account like that has.

I wish I knew more about the in depth details on Paypal chargebacks, but a general rule of thumb is to just avoid using Paypal. In recent couple years it seems people have started to use/trust it again regularly, but as we can see from this example nothing has changed and their protection systems can still be abused. So if you're a buyer-- feel free to use Paypal. The protection is there for you as long as you're not acting careless with who you're trading with If you're a seller-- consider alternative payment forms. Mannco to sell, take the fee hit for the protection. Zelle>CashApp>Venmo for p2p U.S. sellers (ik you're not US but still). Crypto if you're savvy enough to use it and are willing to wait for equally savvy buyers. But in general, it's better to lose a bit to some fees than to risk losing it all. Selling on mannco and paying 5% in fees on the way out the door nets you 95% of your total. Selling on PayPal and losing a chargeback nets you 0% of your total.

Don't sell for paypal (buying is fine). If i sell anything I do cypto (almost never) or zelle (american). Also I do not go first ever. Unless they have a ton of rep and $50k + inv. Alot of rep with no $$$ doesnt mean anything. can ez be an exit scam.

as someone who doesn't buy virtual items from someone else with real money at the moment, when I eventually do and I may be in this situation, what should I do?
    • Flaim
Tagging @`Yahiamice to ask for more details on how that works, since he was one of the people that got charged back. Are you just screwed as the seller? Or will you be able to prove your case and get the chargeback denied?
