It's one thing to mock a native speaker for making a then/than mistake but it's a completely different thing to insult somebody who is doing his best to communicate with you in a foreign language. You try and speak back to them in Spanish/French/German/ whatever. Can't you see they are actually trying their best? It's not as if they are completely incomprehensible, most of the time it is perfectly clear what a user means.
