The BB might be a reference to Kid Flash, but all his recent versions have goggles. Either way, none of those things have as much pop cultural presence as SF. You can certainly argue the relative popularity, but SF is an old guard of video game culture, so it would make sense for that to boost the popularity of the hat, if only slightly.
