Ive never actually seen it so I can't speak from experience but some of my brony friends say it is actually pretty funny. Though most of the bronies you meet just like to annoy people by saying they like the show

Basically, it's because it's actually a fun and funny show with charming characters who actually have flaws and neuroses. The show didn't go the ultra girly-girly route like Strawberry Shortcake or the Barbie movies, but was made as a show for all ages and genders can enjoy. The show also has good credentials, as the creator, Lauren Faust, was behind other cartoons that were hits with older crowds, namely the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. It also has some damn catchy songs.

As for why the brony fanbase has latched on, besides the above reasons, it's because Hasbro and the writing staff embraced the fans, giving shout-outs in the show and being commutative with them as well as not stifling the overall creativity of the fandom After all, look at all the fanart and other creations (With safe search on though) that have been made and how little Hasbro has sent out Cease and Desists. As for the annoying fans, it's like that in any fandom, where there are some that just take everything too far, and unfortunately, those people tend to be the most visible. Most bronies are like your standard Trekkie, Whovian, and whatever the people who love Breaking Bad call themselves, where they just enjoy the show and like to talk about it around the water cooler.

In any case, the best way to see what all the hype is about is to actually watch the show. Load up a few episodes from the first season (most say to avoid the first two when jumping into the series as they are on the weak side), which can easily be found on Youtube or Netflix, and decide for yourself if the show is right for you or not. If you're only willing to watch one or two episodes, I'd suggest Dragonshy or Boast Busters (Episodes 7 and 6 respectively)

I really don't see why Bronies are receiving hate for doing something that they like, that doesn't hurt others.

Nobody gets lynched for liking adventure time. Which is also a child's show (it is pretty baller though)

I mean, sure, some bronies are arrogant, rude, twats, but I am sure that there are plenty who are the nicest, sweetest people you could meet. Its the case with all fandoms. Why are we insulting them for being bronies? Why are we generalising an entire fandom, just for the behaviour of a few individuals?

Why do people like Dr. Who?

I don't know. I don't know why people like mlp either. But who cares.

They receive too much hate for the 1% of extreme fans or 'le trole dat es funeh lellelelelel'.

Most mlp fans are just normal (cleverpun), some think they're funny (dixie) and some really deserve the hate because they spam pony porn links in chat (tf2/awesomenauts).

Don't let the few rotten apples screw stuff up for the majority.

The show is NOT good, or at least, not really spectacular as it's made out to be; most bronies have been brainwashed by other bronies into thinking it's good.  When they watch the show, they feel excited because the show is like a kid's show (which it is) and they feel nostalgia.  The community exists for the bronies who don't have social skills and who are lacking in normal friends, which is most of them.  Take one look at the brony community at one of their normal online outlets, and you'll realize they're mostly just awkward young teens, with a few manchildren amongst them.  They brainwash other socially awkward people into joining the fandom, ensuring that they neither grow socially intelligent nor into normal adults with a realistic view of the world.

Agree or disagree, it's the tr00th.

fictional universes aren't supposed to represent or teach people about the real world.

Once again, don't generalize an entire group of people based upon the actions of a few

Also, fanart, and fan-fic, both non-erotic and erotic, is completely normal for any other fandom. Why is it frowned upon in the case of MLP?

And if the people supposedly "brainwashed" into joining the fandom enjoy themselves and find comfort, as well as friends, within the fandom, then why the hell not?

Yes, but if that's all you're expose to, how do you grow up?  You turn into a manchild, that's what.

You realize that the first and second sites I linked to are basically a perfect cross section of the brony community, rite?  It's not a "few", it's a good chunk of them

It's also spilled out into normal google searches for ponies now, because it's such a rampant problem.  There's a lot of porn, and it's disproportionately more than from any other fandom.

And if the people supposedly "brainwashed" into joining the fandom enjoy themselves and find comfort, as well as friends, within the fandom, then why the hell not?

So you want more of these people?

Shouldn't we be telling these people to grow up and stop repelling everyone around them? It's for their own social health.

FYI, these types of people make up a decent proportion of the brony community.

ok, admittedly, these people do make me die a little inside.

the thing about fandoms is that they make some people happy. they provide shelter from the outside world, and the problems that come with it, if only temporarily. MLP is but another one, but maybe with some more uninformed members. But if they want to be that way, why not. (unless they start to physically harm others or call them names/insult them, in which case, action should be taken) Fandoms are allowed to take over a person's life I guess. Even if it is bad for them in the end.

Once again, even though this is a decent proportion of the brony community, it isn't the whole community. Maybe some just enjoy the show, because its cute. Some like to over-analyse it. Thats fine. are we really going to judge people entirely on what fandoms they are in? thats like treating somebody with respect/disrespect based on their music choice, regardless of what they have done for society.

Basically, i'll respect their opinions/lifestyles, as long as they respect others.

Fair enough.

I just make sure to say shit about them as much as I can to prevent the spread.  Even if it doesn't help that much.

Because It's nude ponies AKA horses.

At least in other fan-fics erotic drawings are of Humans, but with MLP,  ITS HORSES that people are drawing, and/or masterbating to.

I can't get on board with that i'm sorry.

That's honestly not the worst part.

The worst part is that when a 7 year old girl types "My little pony rainbow dash" into google, they're ensured to get porn if they scroll down far enough.

If she looks up "my little pony stories", many of the stories are going to be erotica.

If she looks for a discussion board about ponies, she's going to be surrounded by people who fap to ponies, and who are manchildren fedorabeards.

That's fucked up, huh?

I can see this same argument being made for child pornography.

I can see this same argument being made for child pornography.

uhm well that is true when people would paint REAL horses and have sex with them.

It could also be compared to child hentai porn (aka japanese drawn shit). I'm kinda leaning to okaying child hentai porn, as it's not real and a way to prevent people who like this from actually performing it on a child.

So pony porn with actual ponies : NO

With drawn ones : Not for me, but if you like it, see if I care

None of what you're saying seems logical
