As far as i know cleverpun mention it that you need 2 sales even if it's old effect, so do you actually need 2 sales or not? @_@

Okay, i see that New hat required 2 sales , but how do you tell if it's new hat or old hat?

as blind polar bear mention you need 2 sales but then again this suggestion ( http://backpack.tf/vote/id/53251cd14dd7b834288b4568 ) got accepted i thought you need 2 sales for new hat? now im lost. Can someone explain? @_@

ALL SUGGESTIONS ESTABLISHING PRICES ON NEW HATS/EFFECTS REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 2 DEFINED SALES

• If the two sales are discrepant (can't tell what is the outlier), then a third sale is needed
• If the hat is an old/rare hat with one sale in many months (>3 months), then it is acceptable to set a flat price and it will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis (depending on how comparable the sale is to previous offers)
• This rule primarily targets the following types of hats / effects: robo hats / effects, summer hats / effects, 2013 halloween effects, any hat recently available in unusual quality.
• The two sales must be DEFINED sales (i.e. within the last three months and for hats with prices already established). Don't use unpriced hats as proof to price another hat.

when in doubt, just use 2 sales and its pretty simple to tell whether a hat is old or new, just look up to see whether the hat doesn't have many unusual variants unboxed, most will have less than 125 unboxed with a few exceptions (mask of the shaman, hazmat headcase, noh mercy, coffin kit being the most notable) also the hat won't have many or no effects priced

Its been stated multiple times that backpack.tf increasingly loses influence as unusuals become more and more valuable. At that point the only reason to even price it is to record the amount it sold for since the person that buys it isn't likely to sell anytime soon whether they re-list it for sale or not.

 

You cannot put all unusuals on the same plane. Transactions with an unusual worth 1.5 bud isn't the same as unusuals worth 15 buds, nor either of those are similar to sales of unusuals worth 150 buds.

Two factors here:

(1) Rarity. There are already 3 steaming rifleman hats. 2 are on the market, and there have been 3-4 recent sales. It is not appropriate to price that hat based on a single sale. Compare that to the burning, scorching viewfinders or the green fetti fed fighting fedora. 1 of 1 hats. Most are not on the market (the scorching is but he clearly shows no interest in selling and seems to be showing off with an SFM competition.....).

 

(2) Value. There are thousands of people who can afford a 1 buds hat. The chance that that will sell again is 100% --> you should wait for 2 sales to price. There are few people who could buy the scorching viewfinder (who both have the backpack value AND resources in old effect unusuals + buds AND have an interest in the viewfinder). The chance that it sells any time soon is much much lower. This goes on most of the highest tiers of hats >60-70 buds in value. We just report sales without making any attempt to give them our "valuation."
