Legit Tourney Voting Invitation?

Machelix

Recommended Posts

It might just be my heightened suspicion over the years, but recently I was approached by someone asking me to vote on their emblem for a gaming tourney.  In you guys' opinions, is this tournament voting legitimate, or is this another scam attempt?

That does sound like a scam.

There was a method similar where a [insert scammer name] where they would ask you to vote their comp team on a sketchy website. And for that, you needed to connect your account on a fake steam login page that would steal all your info.

If I were you, block him and ignore those.

These scams make sense for dota or cs but idk who’s dumb enough to fall for a tf2 tourney scam

what competitive scene bro, the top tournaments are like $20k prizes vs millions for other games, this game doesn’t have a tournament scene big enough to vote on lmao we literally have a bot crisis and the item servers will break for days at a time, this shit is neglected

Why hasn't a admin removed this scam link yet, or removed the whole post completely?

Yes this is a scam. Besides the fact that it's never legit when someone asks you to vote for them there are a couple things you can do to verify these websites

(My screenshots are dutch sorry, but I'm sure you recognize the pages)

1- Clicking login doesn't actually take you to steam, check the URL

Alternatively it can also open the login page as a fake popup on the website itself, where they make it seem like the popup has the correct url, steam never does this and it's always fake

2- It DOES take you to steam but you are not already logged in

When this happens, open steam in a new tab yourself and log in there. Then try again on the site you're trying to log in to and it should look like this:

If it doesn't and still asks for your login info, don't log in
