Gifting doesnt defer people from still buying it especially if it's a rare and well wanted 1/1.

 

Also you have no idea how many people ive seen go "not for sale" and a year later they sell it because they quit tf2 and want the money, If you gifted it you would have effectively just devalued your hat by a chunk for nothing which is incredibly stupid.
