The first three were great and mind blowing (pun totally intended,) and from Saw 4 and onward the movies started deteriorating because of the director team change, although not so bad. AFFIRMATIVE Posted October 29, 2020 Share Posted October 29, 2020 They haven't aged too well for me, could be recency bias as personally movies like Midsommar and Hereditary raised the bar for horror movies nowadays. The Saw movies were originally interesting for its overarching main story involving Kramer himself and the murder mystery aspect it had, with the traps serving as a secondary feature, then they kind of turned into popcorn flicks and sort of reversed the roles, where the murder mystery is more of a substitute for the main attraction, which are the gory trap designs and ways people can die. In that case the first three are the only ones worth being called murder mystery, because they are the only ones that seemed well thought through with mind-blowing plot twists.
