Question about "Strange" and "Strange Decorated Weapon"

So, I was checking some skins earlier today and welp, this got my attention while I was looking thru some strange ones’ stats pages. I seems that “Strange Decorated Weapon” and “Strange” are 2 different things so, yeh. I got this question.

Can both of them exist?

What I mean with this is that, if 2 persons have the exact same skin, is it posible for one to show on bp as “Strange Decorated Weapon” and the other just as “Strange”?

For example:

are the very same thing. Will backpack ever show the “Strange Decorated” one? or for that skin is always gonna show the “Strange” one?

This "difference" has always been a mystery to me.

 

There are a lot of examples at Marketplace.tf, for example Strange Dead Reckoner Revolver (Well-Worn): 15051;11;w4;pk51 vs 15051;15;w4;pk51;strange

 

At first I believed these to be different items on some deep Steam level

but then I couple of times I purchased a Strange Skin under one MPTF SKU only to find it under another when deposited back to MPTF.

I can explain this. When the warpaints first came out with jungle inferno, all strange skins were decorated quality and then elevated strange.

But valve fucked up the tiers in the cases so they all started at civilian for both the contract drop collections and the ones you needed keys for.

 

This meant that civilan grade strangifiers stat-clocks could be used on what was supposed to be mercenary grade items form the key unboxed collections.

Valve fixed this after a few days but in that time a lot of weapons got upgraded to strange that shouldn't have been able to from the start.

 

After this fix all strange weapons and warpaints unboxed have strange as the base quality. Anything that's strange elevated is from before this bugfix or is civilian grade.

 

I have a strange hot FN Corsair scattergun unboxed after this fix, but there is an elevated strange hot FN one unboxed before the bugfix as well.

Thanks for the info! I've always wondered why like half my skins are decorated and the others aren't... Nice collection too btw.
