mb_ Posted November 12, 2019 Share Posted November 12, 2019 HDD controller can read data from magnetic plate OR from on-board memory/cache and as expected reading from memory is a lot faster, cache cant mirror all data available on plates so disk will still do a lot of reads from plates. Larger cache will increase number of reads from cache so average read speed will go up as size of cache goes up. In real world i would save up those 50$ for some SSD/NVM drive...
