Also, answer to your question. It all depends on the buyer tbh. I personally don't care about dupes. But it somewhat makes a difference if it's a rare hat, ie 1 of 1, because it stops it from being a 1 of 1, yadig?

It doesn't really matter if you want to keep the hat, but it sure does matter when you're looking to resell.

 

On some good unusuals it only makes a difference of like 10% but on terrible unusuals it could get close to like 40% off the suggested price.

 

It normally doesn't matter on items under like 25 keys

For selling it usually matters, although a lot of low tiers sell equally well, duped or not.

It mainly matters for hightier mass-duped items or items that often have more dupes for sale than clean ones (e.g beams TC, burning reggae, Cloudy buto, Hearts bonk, ghosts/Gfetti noh etc, and of course the burning TC).

Some collectors specificly care for items being clean or duped. Some people that get their hats for keeps do too, although there's also many that just want a specific hat/effect combo, that dont mind.

Apart from collectors as mentioned above, hats being duped are often only less popular because traders use that as a means to value the offered hat at less than the person offering values it at. Since many traders do this, duped sellers often have a harder time selling their hats, and when you're going to offer your dupe around, you'll experience more declines than with a clean version.

The only reason people don't like them is because other people won't like them too , is a loop created by people who wanted to underprice items with something you can't even see in-game
