Questions about unusual weapons

I don't know much about unusual weapons, let alone strange unusual weapons. I got a Strange Unusual Blitzkrieg Pistol (Field Tested) (Hot).

So a few questions:

Are strange unusual weapons generally worth more? I've seen people suggest that strange unusual hats are worth more, but I find that isn't really the case.

So what's the deal with strange unusual weapons vs unusual weapons in terms of what they are worth?

Are unusual weapons hard to sell?

How does Factory New, Field Tested, etc, affect the price?

Are there any buying/selling guides for unusual weapons out there?

What should I sell my pistol at?

IMO unlike unusual hats, the strange counter means more to a weapon since it also adds an additional cosmetic effect (the stat clock)

Strange Unusual Weapons can sell more than Unusual weapons of the same type and wear.

Minimal Wear and Field Tested dont have a large variation in their prices on most grades excluding Elite and Assassin.

Factory New will always be the most expensive (Saw a knife which was Factory New Strange Unusual sell for 1000 keys)

Unfortunately because bp.tf cant price strange unusual weapons, the strange unusuals are more of a collectors item and harder to sell as compared to the non-strange unusual.

E.g

http://backpack.tf/stats/Unusual/Low%20Profile%20%7C%20SMG%20(Factory%20New)/Tradable/Craftable/703

This has now been priced so it will be easier to sell this particular combo. However only collectors would be willing to pay the additional costs for the strange variant because it wont reflect in their backpack value.

Well, l have had some experience with unusual weapons (not stranges though). From what i have seen:

 - In terms of the wear: in most cases there isn't a big difference in price between Minimal-Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle Scarred. Like Findiculous said, it doesn't work like that on Elite/Assassin weapons, where prices might be far apart. Factory New is obviously worth more all the time.

 - In terms of the unusual effect: Cool/Hot are low-tier effects, while Energy Orb/Isotope are high-tier. Prices on each will depend on the weapon: if we are talking about SMGs, there won't be a big difference. On high-tier Rocket Launchers and Scatterguns, that's another story.

 - In terms of the Stat-Clock: Strange unusuals sell for much more than regular unusuals. Much more could mean 2x, 3x or 4x the regular price. Again, it depends on the weapon/wear/effect. The fact that they can't be priced on bp.tf makes them extremely hard to sell. General rule: Hard to price = Hard to sell.

Regarding your Strange Pistol, the best way to find its price is to check for what has it sold before. Try searching for old Outpost trades and see how much were past owners asking for it, or what kind of offers did they receive. Honestly, without doing much research, i would probably start from around 60-70 keys and go down from there depending on the offers you receive.

To answer a couple of your questions based on my trading experience with regular weapons/unusual weapons:

1. Strange weapons are definitely worth more. As Findiculous mentioned, A Stat Clock gives the item an additional cosmetic effect on the weapon and allows you to track the kills on the weapon. How much does it vary? Depends on the weapon, skin, unusual effect, and condition of the weapon I will go on to talk about below. A less wanted skin for a strange weapon would not vary much in price as a wanted skin would. Same applies to unusual effects.

2. Like I previously said, the addition of a Stat Clock allows the kills for the weapon to be tracked. In an unusual weapon, this is simply an "icing to the cake" that makes the weapon more rare and valuable. Strange Unusual Weapons price vs. a normal unusual weapon depends on the skin and condition of the weapon.

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28230733- An Unusual Isotope Brain Candy (Field-Tested) - B/O 50 keys

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28109874- A Strange Unusual Cool Brain Candy Rocket Launcher (Field-Tested) - B/O 170 keys

(Difference of 120 keys between strange and regular. Variables might include effect of weapon, killstreaks enabled, and simply rarity of the weapon skin.)

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28430136- A Unusual Isotope Corsair Scattergun (Field-tested) - C/O of 73 keys in items

    http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28431685- A Strange Unusual Cool Corsair Scattergun (Field-Tested) - B/O of 115 keys

(Difference of about 42 keys strange and regular. Variables might include effect of weapon, killstreaks enabled, and simply the rarity of the weapon skin.)

So like I said, the price variation totally depends on certain factors.

3. Are unusual weapons hard to sell?

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28119549- 3 months old post, bumped.

http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28235396- 2 months old post, bumped.

Based on these posts and my trading experience, yes they're hard to sell. People are still waiting after 1 month to sell their weapon. This is simply due to very few offers on trades and no price suggestions on backpack.tf for MOST unusual weapons and their condition. Majority of people are not willing to touch something that is unpriced.

4. The condition of the gun surely affects the price of the gun. This is the order from more valuable to less valuable:

  • Factory New
  • Minimal Wear
  • Field-Tested
  • Well-Worn
  • Battle-Scarred

Price variations on condition of weapon again depend on the skin of the weapon and the effect (if the weapon is unusual).

5. The best guide to check weapons is to honestly look at the previous sales of a seller using the "compare" button on bp.tf or simply look at community market sales and base the price of keys on how much the weapon was sold for. A simple website that I use to check the price of a weapon (goes based off sellers on the community market) is http://www.p337.info/tfview/index.php. You have access to all the skins (and conditions). But this should be used as a guide, not a pricing bible.

6. As for pricing your weapon, it's currently 1 of 1 on the market for it being strange and an unusual with that effect and condition (Correct me if I'm wrong). So you can really set what you like.

KEEP IN MIND THOUGH - http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/28191600- This guy has the same skin, effect, and condition of your weapon except not strange and has a B/O of 40 keys. He also has his posted for more than 3 months. To interpret this, this weapon will most likely not get more 60 for it being strange since pistols vary little between strange and regular and the regular weapon seller hasn't received any offers. My recommendation is to look for the 40-60 keys range for your weapon to get SOME offers for it.

Hoped my answers helped you.
