The Tea Overlord
Could someone, who is/has: Insanely rich or has huge quantities of a same item; Access to multiple servers; And knows how to make bots; rig voting in backpack.tf? My idea was, that someone could rig by creating fake traders, then the fake traders would buy/sell an item, for example on outpost, and you could collect all these "fake" evidence to rig a vote on backpack.tf and price the item to your liking. Is that possible?

The Tea Overlord
Voting doesn't influence price changes tho. other people will follow the backpack.tf prices when buying items the current sellers will either lower or rise the prices if the price changes so basically it does
puddingkip
other people will follow the backpack.tf prices when buying items the current sellers will either lower or rise the prices if the price changes so basically it does Even though bp.tf doesn't aim to influence the market it is naive to say that it doesn't. However price suggestions aren't accepted based on the % of upvotes but rather on the proof that was submitted with the votes being a helpful additional tool. Suggestions with >80% votes got declined and with <40% got accepted, not all voters are rational. And you are not allowed to vote using several accounts. So really, there is no threat of this happening

Example Key suggestion for keys to drop to 2.33, with NO proof whatsoever. Thousands vote yes. It's still closed. Why? NO PROOF. People can vote however they want, but it's the proof that counts. Vaccinated Autist
I agree with sugarcube's comment above me. Backpack.tf reflects the current market. <50 percent vote does not mean it must be accepted. Also why would people upvote a crappy suggestion with no proof

Example Key suggestion for keys to drop to 2.33, with NO proof whatsoever. Thousands vote yes. It's still closed. Why? NO PROOF. People can vote however they want, but it's the proof that counts. There were several key votes in the past that were accepted to rise due to voters wanting it because the mods were on the fence about it. Votes matter when the proof is iffy and they want to see what the community thinks if the mods can't decide.
Gent♥
Votes matter when the proof is iffy and they want to see what the community thinks if the mods can't decide. This is true, but also irrelevant to what OP is saying. In the vast majority of cases, votes don't matter. The Heavy Lifter spiking to 7 ref springs to mind, lemme grab that... http://backpack.tf/vote/id/540dd09eb88d88c46e8b4658
Zcrab
No, VOTING on the price DOES NOT influence a price change, ever. Not true. I remember Polar or Cashew saying that if he isn't sure about a suggestion, he goes with votes. So yeah, voting can matter if the suggestion is vague. The Phantom
Voting doesn't influence price changes tho. Voting isn't the deciding factor for price changes. While it does hold some weight, it all boils down to competent bp.tf moderators. Even if everyone wanted to see keys cost 2.33 ref, and all voted for it, a mod would not pass it because of lack of proof.
polar
Is that possible? It's possible but very unlikely. We have a "show voters" button next to each suggestion that gives a list of every single person who voted, their IP address, bp value, rep status, etc. Unless someone wanted to go through the effort of making all those alts AND changing all their IPs - which is quite a lot of work - there won't be an issue. Fenrir
I dont think he means someone would take bots and vote for the suggestions, I believe he means that he would take the bots and trade the items amongst themselves for a price different than bp.tf, and use these trades as proof for a suggestion.
