I have, from this, gained a better understanding of European's apprehension when considering war as compared to the UK or the USA. Please look up a summery of the book and comment. EDIT: Beyond addressing the horrors people visited upon eachother the book also addresses the idea of how the war established new identities for the many nations involved.
