From whose persceptive or relative viewpoint does a "thumbs up" mean?

Suppose there are two people on a planet with positive gravity, with a distance away from core as up, and towards the core as down. one person stands on his head. he sticks his thumbs pointing in a parallel direction to his body with the tip of his thumb nearer to his head. To him it looks like a thumbs up, to an upright observer it looks like a thumbs down.

Who is correct?

Relativity is kinda hard. Then again this question might not pertain to it as well as squished spacships.

It's a thumbs down. The guy sent a message wrongly if his intent was to thumbs up , he should have known how the receiver would take it as. The receiver of the message is what matters in that case.

The person standing on his head would be actually giving a thumbs down. Based on the definition you have provided, "distance away from core as up, and towards the core as down" and therefore it can only be a thumbs down. The receiver doesn't really matter, it is a strict definition based on the present conditions. Should towards the core as up be true, then he would be giving a thumbs up.
