Mr.Giang
Since I quitted pricing craft hats now, I really want to learn how to price Unusuals. I have a problem at spotiing duped Unusuals as most guides out there are really hard to understand for me. So any clear explainations?
Kevin the Chicken God
most obvious is if a guy owns the hat but isnt the most recent person in the hat's history or if a name shows up multiple times in different places in the item history if you cant tell, you can always just look at the item info on bp.tf

Liddojunior
There have been around 3-5 threads askin this same question in the past month. You should have searched before making the thread. This thread should be useful: http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?/topic/6033-new-unusual-price-suggestion-guide-the-cheat-sheet/ It is duped if an item with the same original ID exist in two or more backpacks at the exact same time. Methods of checking if an item is duped. With an example. Check its outpost recorded user history. Via it's permalink http://www.tf2outpost.com/item/440,2438532819,97,5 Check if there are any repeats of the same user. And check backpacks of the users before and after the repeat. Check Backpack.tf recorded user history Via the history link button on the item. http://backpack.tf/item/381937233 If it says it may be a duplicated item. Proceed to checking the same way as before but after move onto tf2items Check Tf2Items recorded user history It is the most reliable method of checking if an item is a duplicate. http://www.tf2items.com/item/2438532819 As you can see it says "This item potentially still exists. Check the user's backpack to verify." I had selected this item because of this case. It may say that but it doesn't mean the item is necessarily duplicated. A private backpack can bring that message up because it isn't possible for the database to record if the item is or isn't in the users backpack. Use all of these 3 methods in order to check an item. Now about duplicated items. Unusuals that are under 5 buds usually do not lose value or are any harder to sell.

Gent♥
You mean 3 right? Because Polar said 3 in the Cheat Sheet. It's 3, is it? I've always personally gone with 2 just to be on the safe side. Good to have an official number on that :3 1) http://www.tf2outpost.com/user/303507 2) Click on Steam profile - http://steamcommunity.com/id/Marcusd0/ 3) Get Enhanced Steam, then you get built-in Backpack.tf link ( http://www.enhancedsteam.com/ ) 4) http://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198031258757 5) Spot the unusual - http://backpack.tf/item/1196098126 6) Duped. WHY HAVE I NEVER SEEN ENHANCED STEAM BEFORE THIS IS AMAZING *Ahem* But, on topic, yeah. If the owner of the trade, isn't the most recent owner of the item, then steer clear, Kevin pretty much explained everything :

No, I mean 5 In his sheet under 5 buds only deviates slightly and from my experience with plenty of unusuals. Its when it gets around ~5 buds that duped can end up being a problem when selling.
