rfc- Proposing a new suggestion rule for newly added items

I decided to blog this first before making a post in order to hear some initial feedback (rfc, or request for comments).

Newly added items have trouble getting an initial price, especially now with the removal of trade.tf's 'closed trades'. That's because they require sellers, and unlike with some items where buyers are sufficient because their value is outdated (which are easy suggestions, btw), it can be a real pain and a time consuming mess to find some quality proof. To make things worse, there is no easy way for users to find a suggestion link to new items. What most will do is either get one themselves or find someone who has one in their backpack in order to go to the item's stats page (of course you can modify the url but few users are aware of this).

Resuming with the proof part, what commonly happens is that ranges become too wide for the initial suggestion (example, http://backpack.tf/vote/id/54abff85b98d882c3e8b4b46- smissmas 2014), or items are not priced entirely (example, http://backpack.tf/stats/Haunted/Minsk%20Beef/Tradable/Craftable - haunted 2014) even months after their addition. Until recently, not even all EOTL cosmetics were priced (see http://backpack.tf/vote/id/54c6768eba8d88c6298b46f2 ) This leads to incorrect backpack values, more difficult access to stats pages for items, and less interest in an item in general (I can only imagine some people might think it does not exist). It also makes pc's harder when items are unpriced (can also make some level of sharking possible/easier on lesser experienced users), which is the exact reason why this site is used. That also discourages people to accept the item for their own. This proposed rule is meant to put an end to this.

The rule would be something as follows: items which were added to the game/made tradable up to 1 week ago may be priced purely on the most common selling point (so no sales required). A 3 day cooldown is in place for this rule so the initial suggesting price will not be based on sellers asking absurd prices.

Once such a suggestion is made and accepted, there will be a general idea of what the item is worth. Other people will have an easier time finding the item and it will appear in the pricelist for other users to correct the price in the future.

What is your opinion?

Most mods are already pretty generous with these new item suggestions setting initial prices. I've accepted countless numbers of them with lackluster proof. Maybe they have 1 sale and rest sellers. If I felt it was close, it was accepted. I don't think making things even more lenient is the right thing to do. I don't think it's too much to expect users to find 1 or 2 sales.

All for it. I wanna slap someone when a new item comes out and nobody wants to buy it/wants barely over a scrap for it because Backpack.tf hasn't given it a price yet.

And I can't price it for the exact same reason. Nobody wants to buy or they want it for an extremely low price.
