For me, my defining childhood games would be:

NES:

Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt

Super Mario Bros. 3

Paperboy

Game Boy:

Super Mario Land 2

Kirby's Dream Land (Mainly as that was the very first game that I owned)

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Final Fantasy Legend II

Pokemon Red

N64:

Super Smash Bros.

Mario Party 3

Goldeneye

Harvest Moon 64

PC:

X-Wing

TIE Fighter

Civilization II

Starcraft

Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Sam & Max Hit the Road

Duke Nukem 3D

Sim City 2000

The Xbox/Ps2/GCN era started when I was in high school, so I can't really call any of those games part of my childhood.
