Halloween 2013 unusual unboxed in 2024
Relish and 51 others reacted to PlasmaCharge for a topic
Something I never thought would come from my unlocked creepy crates I held for many years. I had a scout, heavy and a pyro crate, I opened the heavy and scout and got the usual shit and debated on opening the pyro and said fuck it. Here we are a fucking 2013 Halloween unusual opened in 2024 the only thing that is weird is it gave me a 2013 effect and not a 2014. Before opening these crates I looked many times to see if even in 2018 or any other year after 2014 someone opened a unusual. I could never find any video or picture that someone did. Guess I'll be the one to do it and it's still is possible to get old gen unusuals from unlocked creepy crates. Way back in 2014 I wanted to buy some from the mann co store but I never asked my mom for money and so I never opened any. Back when the unlocked creepy crates were still affordable like 10 to 20 keys I picked the 3 crates up and that was it I wanted to get the full set of 9 class crates but stopped. As time went on these crates got so god damn expensive and rare so I always debated opening them tell today I just thought I'll probably won't get the others and I always wanted to open a few. As said before it is still insane it gave a 2013 effect instead of a 2014 of course I much rather get a 2013 effect but how did it not give a 2014? And No Not Selling Currently52 points -

this reads like damage control, because you didnt expect the kind of response you'd receive over this awesome you found someone to take over for you, hopefully they have more time to dedicate to the doggy. this is a contradictory statement, you would only give up the dog to caring people close to him but also you would have given up the dog if a specific dude said no? sounds like theres more than one situation where you'd give up your dog then i see homeless dudes prioritize their dogs health and food over their own, once again reminding people that you are virtually well off (6 figure inventory just on virtual hats), but i understand not having the time. once again, its how you handled it with your words, rather than the actions you made. making medicine and food for your dog? awesome! "LMAOOOOOOO EZ BAG SECURED DUMB DOG I WOULD HAVE DROPPED HIS ASS OFF AT THE POUND FOR FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!" this was not the move, and makes you look gross. theres a stereotype already that trader mains are horribly, disgustingly greedy, why did you perpetuate the stereotype? one thing i remember about taking care of animals is worldview. we do shit everyday, go out meet people talk hang out fuck whatever, at the end of the day we come home and our pets greet us. what do they have? what kind of social life do they live? for most animals, you are their EVERYTHING, and it crushes them when you decide to abandon them, even if its hard for them to show it. the dog has no idea why you just gave it up to another person, and isnt going to get why you arent coming around to play anymore or give belly scratches or cuddle. he/she wont get it, they'll probably die not getting it, and that dog will be thinking of you and your parents on the way out. hope you arent going to be snorting coke off some strippers ass in college while thats happening, but YOLO amirite?!??!?!?!? leave the jokes for the comedians next time34 points -

MannCo's Biggest "Giveaway" 2024
MetalCore and 18 others reacted to floppyfish390 for a topic
The owners of Mannco.store could cure world hunger and people would still find ways to complain. While I believe the owners are very sketchy individuals, plus there are still massive issues with the site (some of which, competitors don't have) from what I saw they laid out a good roadmap, refunding people full SELL ORDER value for items under $1000 is very generous + reduced fees are also good for traffic (don't know if they'll stay, but over time we'll see). The couple of issues I can see is why the anti-virus software or whatever tf they used leaked their bot secrets, and if the site is still using the same company. The other issue i see is for the bigger ticket items and how much they'll actually reimburse people for, as plenty were listed quite high but that's a future issue. I thought they wouldn't do anything but the owners seem committed, going to be interesting to see how this unfolds though.19 points -

why would I want to use this site over marketplace or even mannco the no fees for buyers thing is cool until you realize it’s going to be tacked on to the price like marketplace. mannco is “cheaper” but then the fees make it around the same price. after gladiators hack and manncos hack, anyone dumb enough to leave high value items in the hands of random bots deserves to get cleaned like a chump. all of the writing on the site is fluff with 0 substance, and I fail to see the wow factor that separates this site from others. Every site offers “best security and support” just like papa johns has “the finest quality ingredients” or whatever bullshit they put on the box its called puffery and it’s legal for companies to do. “The reason why puffery is not prohibited under advertising or consumer fraud laws is that most courts consider puffing to be so immaterial and unreliable that it cannot form the basis for liability” basically so long as you don’t outright lie about the site you can say anything you want about your service or product and not get in legal trouble for it legal puffery: “We offer you the best security in the industry, no questions asked.” illegal puffery: “With our top of the line security teams on standby, your items are guaranteed safe with us.” If somehow by a miracle this goes live and thrives, I expect russell to make a ctrade.tf hacked thread soon after17 points -

Open discussion on rules for trading with scammers (Part 3)
Julia and 15 others reacted to `Yahiamice for a topic
I certainly don't miss the 2014-2017 times where every time i'd have to trade with someone who wasn't already a reputable member of the trading scene, i'd have to conduct 30 minutes of background checks that led nowhere and had to ultimately weigh "should i really risk trading with this guy who i have no idea if he's just a 250 hour player or a scammer alt and get banned by ToughSox the next morning over a ~5 key profit...?" The old rules sucked in how unpredictable they'd be at times (the definition of obvious alt used to be SO BROAD), and the paranoia they induced was mindnumbing to deal with. Though, i'd much rather take out the rest & keep the part where mods enforced those rules with an iron fist, so many ppl get away with borderline fraud nowadays. If you report mods had even HALF the gall of partner communities (firepowered, FOG) when it comes to marking folk that deserve to be marked, it'd already solve much of the issues here. But unfortunately, since bptf's acquisition and centralization of the entire TF2 market, i understand you guys have to take a more lax approach to such reports and let other communities judge as to not be too overcentralizing, but i'd much rather take TF2Outpost's harsh two-strike system than the slap-on-the-wrist that sharkers and fences get nowadays. Plus, what reason is there not to offer users (or donators + premium if it's too resource intensive) a button on other's profiles that matches IP's w/ other known alts and lets you know if this user matches addresses w/ scammers? Don't make it show their IP obviously, and only show results/account names if there's a positive match, and in the case of false positives, manually flag the user as safe or something. It's not a perfect system, but it'd be as close to perfect as possible16 points -

Why are traders such robots now?
Vidual Cadet and 15 others reacted to Ridley for a topic
People sit on items for years (often as long as half a decade) with it listed in classifieds. Any attempt to negotiate or ask about the item gets radio silence. Add them? Never accepted. Comment on their profile? Comments were disabled years ago. Send them a trade offer with text asking about their item? Declined without response. You can spend a week trying to press through this membrane of autism and it's completely fruitless. There's a coalition of accounts that do this and when combined they hold like 50% of all items up for trade. But then if you offer these guys the exact asking price in pure keys that they listed, it's accepted within a few hours. What's the point? If you're so adamant then just throw it onto Marketplace or Mannco. Using the classifieds implies I'm going to interact with something that has more sapience than a cash register.16 points -

I created a list of every hat with broken unusual effects.
Slam and 15 others reacted to Deroplat for a topic
Hi there, first post. And it's a big one! After owning several unusuals throughout the years I have noticed some strange irregularities with how unusual effects behave depending on a handful of attributes. I have not seen much discussion let alone acknowledgement of these issues, so I have made this guide to help the community. I've made a steam guide with everything here plus more on other types of unusual issues. Find it here. The Image included is what I am referring to when I say broken unusuals. If you've owned any gen 1-3 unusuals recently, you may have come a cross a broken unusual, that has the effect appear on the waist of the player-model. I myself owned multiple unusual Merc's Mohawks and noticed this about them. After doing some research and testing inside of tf2, i have made a full list on What hats have this issue. If a unusual has a broken effect ALL versions of that unusual will be broken in the same way. For example: A Purple Energy Aviator Assassin is a broken unusual, so ALL Purple Energy Aviator Assassins that exist as well as all that are unboxed in the future will have the exact same issue unless fixed otherwise. I cannot stress it enough that unusuals are not individually broken. Unsure why, but the bug is significantly more common on hats that were released After the End of The Line update. The bug seems to only really affect valve-made effects. (Gens 1 - 3, Halloweens, Robo, and EOTL) In this test, I used itemtest to check multiple effects on every possible unusual hat obtainable. Some of these effects include but are not limited to: Burning Flames, Sunbeams, Scorching Flames, Smoking, Nut's N' bolts, Stormy Storm, Miami Nights, Green / Purple Confetti, Stormy 13th Hour, Hellfire, Morning Glory, Killawatt, Flaming lantern, Powersurge, TimeWarp, Knifestorm and Purple / Green energy. Because of how TF2 handles things, if a hat has a issue with one of these effects, there is a good chance that it will have issues with other effects from the same generation. I did not test modern effects (Anything made after Gun Mettle) on everything because that would simply take way to much time, plus most hats can't even get modern effects, and of those effects most don't appear to have any issues on 99% of hats from what I saw testing. Below the image is the list of every hat that has the issue. Any hat with a Star before the name can not be fixed by any means simply because the item itself is broken. If the hat is not on the list, it means that it did not have any sort of issues. If you do not think that Itemtest is a proper way to check if a unusual is broken, I have tested unusuals that myself and my friends have owned that had the issue, and they all had the same issue when tested in itemtest and in a real game scenario. Keep in mind that most of the time, These unusuals can be easily fixed by adjusting the unusual effect by any amount. It does not mean you should price a unusual lower simply because the effect does not work in some situations. I myself have purchased many unusuals that had this issue and did not undervalue them for said reasons. I made this guide entirely help those who may have these issues with unusuals that they own. (Hats are organized by Value simply because I used BP.TF price list to see all the unusuals that are in game.) (Not all hats from the Summer 2023 Case are listed because they don't seem to work in itemtest for me.) This feels ridiculous to victimise yourself over given that prices were so different back in 2017. I was also trading back then and made trades with miscs that nowadays look ridiculous but that's the benefit of economic inflation and hindsight. I had to dig through compares and individually check dates for this trade because of the backpack.tf data wipe but the trade you made was easily fair at the time. https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198027544408#!/compare/1488153600/1488240000 https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198055847835#!/compare/1488067200/1488153600 https://backpack.tf/suggestion/599f2afecf6c751fc7205912 - sugg at 420 on the hpjr ke at the time, not sure if this is the whole trade https://backpack.tf/suggestion/58b52540c4404526f95c0a88 - oh it's sale 1 here which was used to price the bonk at 530, $200 paypal i couldnt see in the trade It was easily a fair trade at the time lmao and you got the cv bonk in this gpan trade? https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198027544408#!/compare/1486771200/1488153600 cv bonk at the time - same as above sbtwc boa - https://backpack.tf/suggestion/588c88720e2cad4f94107cbb - easily 400 at the time misc 100 keys in items and the spelled back scatter unaccounted for a pretty standard trade at the time and surprisingly has held up to gpan and hween inflation you can't claim "sharked" when the trade was perfectly standard during 2017 trading prices. and you aren't talking about trades that retroactively, you clearly benefited from too at a similar time? https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198027544408#!/compare/1491004800/1491091200 frost grimm for bonzo reggae? clearly a "shark" given that its 300 for a frost grimm today and 1200 for a bonzo reggae stop this narrative that you were "retroactively sharked" because prices have gone up on some unusuals you used to own. EDIT: I don't know Lila too well but he's an old face and old name in the community (that I used to bug for sales) and I was active around the same time he was active on the discord. The above is as unbiased an opinion as I can have given I've provided relevant compare links from the trades at the time. Double edit: https://prnt.sc/ugP46WNjpmZb I've noticed you even commented to confirm the trade you made on the CV bonk suggestion so it's even crazier for you to retroactively pull your opinion here. Gladiator.tf fallout, site donations
Jarool and 15 others reacted to LaughingLollipop for a topic
Plenty of chatter and discussion on the impact of this to unusual pricing/desperation selling/individual losses. But I got to thinking, what about the services the bots were using? I haven't seen this angle on the implosion explored. Hey, these bots were paying for classifieds listing counts and bump times right? How much? How large of a fraction did they represent? And for those of us who are curious there happens to be a donations leaderboard https://backpack.tf/top/donators For simplicity, the following results use donation numbers truncated to whole dollars, I've rounded to thousands in calculations. Resulting Data Out of the top 99 donors all time, 60 were gladiator.tf bots. Those 60 gladiator.tf bots donated a sum total of $60,000 That $60,000 in gladiator.tf bot donations represents 23.5% of all donations the site has ever received. I identified a further 22 accounts that are also bots (but not gladiator.tf) accounting for a further $21,000 in donations This leaves a maximum (some were private and 1 was a deleted account) of 17 non-bot top 99 donors; their sum total donations are $13500 I did not label dual use (IE play + tf2automatic) accounts as bots; a few of the 17 are definitely at least partially bots Further thoughts There are obviously more gladiator bots lost than those in the top list, I couldn't determine a way to find/quantify their donations. Another interesting linkage is that donations give a slot for every 20 cents, but this is doubled if you are also premium. Therefore from a cost effectiveness perspective, most (if not all) of these gladiator bots were also premium subs. Analysis is limited by a lack of data on the other 250ish gladiator bots in operation (plus unused bots), but it does show a floor of their impact. There are obviously missing data points of bots that donated and are not top 99. The gladiator.tf implosion seems likely to reduce cashflow to bp.tf in the form of donations/premium subs. Depending on when/how popular replacement option(s) become there may be a minimal gap. More speculative analysis Gladiator.tf launched Nov 9 2020 Shockingly, wayback has the donor page for that day. Total donations to this site were $114,000 https://web.archive.org/web/20201109182947/https://backpack.tf/top/donators Today donations are $255,000 950 days since Gladiator.tf Nov 9 launch equates to average donations of $156.7/day in total. Assuming minimal Gladiator.tf contributions before then (I checked Sep 27th and its off ~$3k) during these last 950 days the top 60 gladiator.tf bots accounted for 40% of site donations ($63/day) Bots (Gladiator and not) not in the top 99 surely contributed more, but I cannot quantify. Disclosure Author has no professional relationship with backpack.tf, gladiator.tf, any other tf2 3rd party website or Valve (obviously lmao). Author has never used gladiator.tf bot service. Author uses backpack.tf publicly available functions. Author trades quite a lot and is not a fan of bots. (Tried to be objective and data driven above but hey, you can judge the data for yourself) TL:DR Gladiator.tf's demise will dramatically reduce donations to backpack.tf in the near term. Other bot site(s) coming on line might fill the void. Site donations are dominated by bots over the last 3ish years. But really, read it, its good data.16 points -

this is fucking devastating man Procave didn't deserve this He was the real G of the tf2 trading scene; never getting into any drama, always putting the needs of others above his own needs. Dude even took out a REAL LIFE loan just to pay back users of his service. Throughout these 3-4 years that gladiator's been up, he and his devteam slaved away making sure servers are maintained, ensuring everyone got their needs met & their automated trade desires streamlined, all for FAR LESS $$ a month than a regular 9 to 5 would've garnered him (at gladiator's peak, he was making a measely 2k before server costs, maintenance & staff were paid) he sold his heart out and got his hands dirty to give each and every one of us a valuable service at unbeatable costs. He set aside the feuds between backpack & mannco.store just to offer everyone the same service with no discrimination and without taking sides. He always sought to do best for everyone else, and hearing his spiel on discord brought me to tears aswell. Fuck, man We all took it for granted, as such is in life, you never truly appreciate things until they're gone Cave, if you're reading this, i'll miss you, you old dog. Hope your future ventures run smooth sailing, and i hope you can get some rest once this all blows over14 points -
The Steam Claims Incident - I realized my mistake. Going to own up to it and reset my passwords, revoke api key, get out of the case, and use a malwarebyte scanner as a precaution.
