PSU help

GotWaffle

Recommended Posts

Well its a fine time to make some upgrades, and i think i know what i want to get.

I am planning on getting a AMD FX 8350(Needs 125w) and a GeForce GTX 960 2gb (Needs 400w PSU or greater) and i got a 430w PSU

Will that be enough power and is that a good graphics card?

Graphics card : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SIOOLS2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

CPU : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009O7YUF6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Thanks in advanced! :)

http://pcpartpicker.com/shows the wattage of each part and what they add up to.

So if you add the wattage of that CPU and GPU (and the motherboard and hard drives, which are smaller), you get about 340 watts. Generally you want a margin of 60 or so watts from that estimate and your PSU's output, so you'll be fine powerwise.

As for the 960, it's not the most cost-effective card, but it has low wattage compared to the stuff AMD puts out, so it's good for your situation.

Do you think the 960 can run shit like GTA v and fallout 4 on high settings?

Yeah, by the way you don't really need an 8 core processor if you're just gonna be doing games. Looks like you can do GTA V on high without a problem and while you may not hit 60fps with Fallout 4 on high it'll still be well over 30.

That 8350 is quite power hungry so ATM yes it will do but it would never hurt to get a larger wattage PSU. Last time I checked there were still some good deals on 650W G2/B2 on Newegg.

Since you're talking about upgrading to an FX8 my guess is that you have an FX6xxx? In which case, it's very likely your board can't properly handle an FX8, PLUS, I would just stick with the FX6xxx and overclock it (and go with a 380).

And what psu is it?
