Help me make an Elite 4

Jams

Recommended Posts

EVENTUALLY I want to make a ROM hack. Yesterday I was bored so I made the Pokemon of an Elite 4.

I'm asking for opinions/suggestions

For example:

Which specific Pokemon should I replace.

Which member of the Elite 4 should be moved from it's order/removed/replaced with a different team.

Flaws in the Elite 4 (I haven't had a chance to test the in-game as of yet so I can't say if they have a common weakness)

Specific tweaking of the Pokemon's moves.

Also if you had any ideas of names/appearances that would be cool too. :D

Phew, now that that's over, here's the trainers in their current order I'll have the player face them.

Trainers:

Unnamed Poison Trainer:

Tentacruel - Hydro Pump, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, Ice Beam

Crobat - Aerial Ace, Feint Attack, Sludge Bomb, Steel Wing
Nidoking - Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Sludge Bomb, Earthquake
Venomoth - Sleep Powder, Psychic, Signal Beam, Rest
Venusaur - Toxic, Skull Bash, Solar Beam, Sludge Bomb
Gengar - HypnosisShadow Ball, Brick Break, Hyper Beam

Unnamed Rock Trainer:
Golem - Sandstorm, Toxic, Double Edge, Rollout
Armadlo - Swords Dance, Dig, Fury Cutter, Rock Slide
Aggron - Dragon Claw, Flamethrower, SolarBeam, Rock Slide
Solrock - Cosmic Power, Psychic, Overheat, Explosion
Tyranitar - Outrage, AncientPower, Crunch, Earthquake
Magcargo - Rock Slide, Fire Blast, Double Team, Rest

Unnamed Water Trainer:
Poliwrath - Hydro Pump, Submission, Psychic, Ice Beam
Sharpedo - Dive, Crunch, Skull Bash, Rest
Lanturn - Charge, Thunder, Confuse Ray, Double Team
Slowking - Psychic, Blizzard, Surf, Iron Tail
Swampert - Take Down, Muddy Water, Earthquake, Rock Tomb
Ludicolo - Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Leech Seed, Uproar

Unnamed Flying Trainer:
Charizard - Outrage, Earthquake, Wing Attack, Flamethrower
Tropius - Nature Power, Magical Leaf, Fly, Synthesis (Still deciding if I should drop it or not, going to do some in-game testing)
Skarmory - Whirlwind, Sky AttackSteel Wing, Substitute
Aerodactly ToxicAncientpowerEarthquakeBite
Xatu - Psychic, Drill Peck, Shadow Ball, Double Team
Dragonite - Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Earthquake

Normal Type Champion (still deciding on pokemon)
Kangaskahn - Spikes, Ariel Ace, Fury Cutter, Iron Tail
Exploud - Water Pulse, Flame Thrower, Ice Beam, Extracensory
Slaking - Substitute, Rest, Sleep Talk, Snore
Snorlax - Substitute, Curse, Hyper Beam, Body Slam
Blissey - Minimize, Solfboiled, Seismic Toss, Toxic
Porygon2 - Tri Attack, Conversion2, Psychic, Recover

Yes, it look me that long.

Thanks for your opinions.

EDIT: Currently making a team of a normal type champion, your input is VERY much welcomed.

Personally, I'd take one of the fossil pokemon out of the Rock trainer, if you put both in, it feels too gimmicky.

I just did this for some more type diversity/trying to avoid putting in the generic rock/ground type.

Edit: I was also thinking of dropping Kabutops in there, but that would give 3 out of 4 of them a water type.

Honestly, he's got too many powerhouses, I'd use Bastiodon instead of one of the fossil pokemon to give the player the challenge of taking out a super tanky ass pokemon.

If not, drop Cradily for the slowest Rock Head Sudowoodo possible (Wood Hammer, Stone Edge, Sucker Punch, Hammer Arm) and give a different pokemon Trick Room.

I don't have access to gen 4 mons, since it's a gen 3 hack. And Sudowoodo was originally in the team so I might drop Cradily for him like you said.

Edit: I could make him the champion and add another Elite 4 member to replace him.

Everything's alright I'd say, however one thing is that a Gengar shouldn't have explosion in the move set as that would somewhat be too easy to deal with. Maybe change Explosion to Hypnosis?

I've studied your team thoroughly, I'd like to give you some suggestions

Poison Trainer:

- Not enough Poison-type moves imo, only 2 poison moves users? Good ol' 3rd gen physical Sludge Bomb is everyone's friend

- I'd replace Gengar with something else, it's more Ghost-type themed than Poison, Muk maybe? However, if you want to keep it, I suggest giving it a special set instead of physical.

Rock Trainer:

- Remove one fossilmon, take Aerodactyl from the Flying guy and give it to him.

- Give Aggron Rock Slide

Water Trainer:

- Rework Ludicolo's moveset - it should utilize its Water typing instead of Sunny Day - Solarbeam set which hinders the rest of the team. I suggest  RainDance / Surf / Giga Drain / Leech Seed

Flying Trainer

- Remove Tropius. It's not strong enough to be a part of final E4 member's team. Replace it with a stronger mon like Gyarados or/and add a second Dragon/Flying like Altaria or Salamence (in place of Aerodactyl)

- Replace Charizard's Steel Wing and Dragonite's Thunderbolt with Earthquakes for some more Electric-type coverage.

I'd suggest a normal type elite 4 person since those don't exist yet (I think)

I was contemplating this, the only problem is that most normal types are pretty weak and half the team would be generic stuff (ditto, smeargle, miltalk)

Normals get pretty tanky actually. Slaking, Exploud, Blissey, Kecleon, Ursaring, and Tauros would be my choice for a normal elite four member. Snorlax is too overused which is why I'd drop him.

Thanks for all the input, I'm doing most of what you said, but I wanted to clarify something.

The order of the pokemon is the order I would try to work them coming out, (obviously the AI would try to counter mons coming at them) The last pokemon on each team was meant to be a bit different as a last resort. If I ever make it I plan on restricting the last mon on each team to come out, to always be the trainer's last resort.

For example:

Gengar is COMPLETELY different than the rest of the team. This was done on purpose.

Magcaro is a switch from the rest of the rock team, (which I designed to be all-out attacking) It has rest and double team making it keep alive long enough to get all 6 double teams down to avoid your attacks and sweep with Rock slide and Fire blast.

Ludicolo was made to be different, using solar beams, having leech seed to gain health back, and also have uproar to do straight damage to whatever type comes up against it.

Dragonite was made to be an all out attacker with many types of attacks.

Again, thanks for your imput and I'm going to implement most of what you said.

I had the same dreams as you. Making a ROM hack is hard, so please realize that. i only got half way done with mine before I ran into some programming bugs and glitches that ruined the whole game. Maybe one day ill pick it up again. Heres the outline... please dont steal my idea guys

 Pokemon: Dystopia

Basic idea: modern day pokemon is in dystopia: people live in ramshackle huts and shacks, in little run down poor communities. Meanwhile, Gym Leaders, who are the Champion’s Generals so to speak, and the Elite Four live in luxury, lording over the population, corrupted by their inherent greed. The worst of them all is the Champion, who sits high in his throne, turning a blind eye to the sufferings of the common people, and instating a rule with an iron fist. People go missing in the middle of the night never to be seen again, supposedly dragged off to the Champion’s “Re-education Camp.†But, rebellion is sprouting and the rebels have their chosen child, sent to them by Arceus to overthrow the champion. The Champion’s Secret Police (basically the evil team in this game), have decided to capture the fabled pokemon Cresselia in order to stomp the revolution out. Can our hero, chosen by Arceus, save the region?

One time a year or two ago I TRIED to make a ROM hack, my advice is don't do it, waste of time and gets annoying as fuck.

FTFY

:^) we ROM hackers have all been there

I'd love to see a high-leveled blissey with healing moves and seismic toss on the champ, as his/her highest level pokemon. Make that thing a freaking tank, and itll be pretty cool.

If you actually do start doing the rom hack, let me write the lines. I can't tell you how many times I've played rom hacks and said "I could have done this better." I've played enough rom hacks to know the ins and outs and I would be happy to be a part of it. I could also help write the plot

Yea I got like 3 gyms in but no one played it or anything(I had a broken download link for like a month and not a single person noticed) so I was like if no one wants me to finish it what's the point and quit.

Just responding to everyone that has been on the thread.

I would like to thank you for your imput! It's helped me get a good E4 down, I'm going to start testing them in-game now.

On to people saying that making a ROM hack is hard. I know this before even going in. Ever since I have first played video games I have ALWAYS wanted to make my own. It's always been my dream. I love video games in general, and Pokemon. I can kill 2 birds with one stone here. Also with ROM hacking, you have your base assets already there and all the tools aren't that hard. The only bit I'll really need to learn is making scripts for things, but that's all down the road.

Again, thank you very much. This is why I love the community here. :D

Hatrix demands that he be a lesser battle in the 8th gym and that his team be Swalot (Sticky Hold w/ Black Sludge; Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Toxic), Sudowoodo (Rock Head w/ Silk Scarf; Double-Edge, Rock Slide, Protect, Earthquake), and Scizor (Swarm w/ Silver Powder; Fury Cutter, Swords Dance; Steel Wing; Protect).

If you can adjust AI, have me try to annoyingly regen HP with Swalot while countering any psychic type with Shadow Ball and any ground type with Giga Drain, go for powerful one hit KOs with Sudowoodo while spamming Protect, and with Scizor, pop one Swords Dance asap then pull the same thing Whitney does with her Miltank, spam a move that just gets more powerful the more you use it and go for the sweep. :^) Seems like a decent minor trainer battle, it has easy counters if you happen to have the Pokemon types required.
