So Valve has made it almost a slap in the face of people who are spending a ton of money and selling everything we find just to keep playing Operation Two Cites by making crates 82 and 83. I have done over 125 tours and have found 3 australiums (wrench 28, tomi 85, ambassador 106) and the few pro fabricators I've found have been total junk. I realize it's a gamble to play at all and I have seen there are those who have had slightly better luck however you can unbox one of these crates for about half the price of doing even one complete tour and come away with a professioanl kit not fabricator. This is utter and complete BS. I'm not even going to go into the total waste of money that the squad surplus ticket they sell is. All I'm saying is they should really consider who they're stabbing in the back by making these crates if they want to continue to have an incentive for people to keep throwing money away on this game mode.

Valve has never cared about the economy. They've done many things that screw up the economy. This is just one more thing.

Lol they do care about the economy. They make metric shittons of money from it. You think it's just good luck that the burning shaman was unboxed so recently after the burning ke sale? And what about retired hats?

No they do care about the economy, they hired a damn economic to inform them about it. This is very, very interesting from an economic kind of view. What will happen to pro ks that aren't in the crate? What will happen to australiums? Tf2 is just a playground for them, where they test all their economy stuff (well tf2 and dota2) just because we, the playerbase, will suck it up and keep playing the games

possible hypothesis :

> "why playing MvM if you can find killstreaks in crates ?" - some people stops playing MvM

> less MvM players so less MvM drops

> less australium rate

> price will raise again ?

Posted

They want to spread the usage of these items to other user's who don't play mvm regularly ? Give them the option to buy keys and get a chance at them ?

They know people don't play mvm solely for the rewards. That there are plenty of players who enjoy the game mode. And those players break even with their rewards and they keep the rare rewards for themselves. Mvm was never about giving profit to the players, it was a game mode to give players a different unique experience they won't find in standard maps/modes

And keys are their money maker, not tickets.

Probably wont rise, maybe drop or just maintain

They will rise if Valve make them undroppable and starts a new serie with new australiums

I'd be willing to bet there will be a new set of killstreaks/australium (maybe Silver or some other color) released whenever they get around to dropping end of the line.  This will allow them to extend the ammount of crates  by adding killstreaks instead of new strange weapons. In the long run this will make valve more money as well as the extra income from the higher SCM prices for killstreak weapons.

Just my two pennies on the issue

Valve couldn't afford upgrading their MvM Pentium 4 servers so they decided to make it less popular by adding the new crate(s).

Australiums, Golden Frying Pan, probably over 80 other types of Killstreak Kits/Fabricators... not to mention, since crates now drop less frequently than they used to, maybe these Kits that are being affected will go up again once they stop dropping?

I've done 20 tours and haven't found anything worth over 4 keys.

I'm fine with Crate #83.

Inc crate #84 #85 #86 including australium weapons :D

I want Platinum weapons and new effects for pro shit

And keys are their money maker, not tickets.

I find this decision wasn't the smartest for 2 reasons.

1. There are a lot less players on MvM nowadays. A lot of players decided to join 2 cities to grind for australiums and professionals, and now that the professionals are spiking down, so will the amount of mvm grinders. In turn, less tour of duty tickets are bought.

2. They aren't making much money off of keys. The majority of keys are bought from the steam market now; not from the mann co. store. They could have made more profit by not making a sudden influx of key buyers, but by harvesting the fees from tour of duty tickets, mostly bought in bulk for completing a few tours.

Realize though that those keys were still initially bought from the store. So in actuality, they're making additional profit of an existing key.

^This. Valve makes about 30 cents per key sold on the market and hundreds are sold per hour. On average there's about 300 or so per hour sold, give or take. That's $90 per hour, every hour of the day, every day, only from TF2 keys that are being sold on the market.

It's insane.

They probably did this because pro kits special kits killstreaks are selling so much that you can basically fund free tickets by just playing mvm and selling all killstreak drops.

Yeah, mvm paid itself all the time, you just had to get a "popular" specialized killstreak (or buy one for 3 cents), get lucky with the robot parts, complete the kit and then sell it for 2 keys, and with that you could buy another tour, and repeat.

Well, i'm not playing mvm again, it takes longer to sell any random spec kit now. Well, at least i made 28keys profit from a prof sticky kit.

Pretty sure there's going to be another MvM update in the nearish future.
