EA vs Bank of America

EA has already responded.

"We’re sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren’t nominated this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide."

they have a point.  thing is, online polls attract more of the anti-DRM crowd than the anti-crimes against humanity crowd.

Its funny that they say "they will continue making award winning games". Pretty sure Maxis developed SimCity and EA just made it suck.

EA has made a few games other than Sim City

notably Battlefield, Madden, Mirror's Edge, James Bond, Burnout, SSX, Medal of Honor.  along with games like The Sims, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Crysis, and others made by EA's subsidiaries.

you can hate on their business practices, but let's not pretend they haven't churned out any popular games.

But lately they havn't made good games. Dead Space 3 was a fail , crysis 3 is a fail, and sim city is a huge fail. (they gave out free games to apologize)

I despise EA as a company. As to whether they "create" good games is debatable. The new MoH sucks, new burnout failed as a racing game (Dirt, and Ridge Racer are both better, IMO) Madden sucks (though i hate all Madden games), ME 3 failed to deliver as an ending, Crysis 1 was the only good game of the series.

Honestly, BF3 was the only decent game recent EA has put out. They have published games not developed them. Similar to Activision, they didn't create the CoD series. Infinity ward developed the game, Activision just absorbed them and started to milk it.

I think the last games I legitimately bought from EA was Dragon Age Origins and Awakening. After the shit they pulled with DRM and Origin I refused to pay for any more of their games; PC and console.

All franchises that are now either dead, being milked to death, and/or now pale in comparison to what they use to be. Like Burnout. First 3 were great and were made by Criterion while still under Acclaim (3 was for the most part done by the time EA got rights to the franchise). Then with Paradise they turned it into Need 4 Speed with unlicensed cars. Now its been left to die after making Criterion crap out a new Need 4 Speed game every year.

And fuck them for using their pro gay, lesbian, bi, and transsexual stance as an excuse for people voting them the worst company. Might as well say people are also only voting them the worst because they have non-white employees and employees that aren't Christian.

fair enough.  there is certainly an argument that EA's games have not been great as of late.

Halliburton bribed government officials in Nigeria to take the country's natural resources.

BP spilled 210 million gallons of oil into the ocean.

You're aware of what AIG and Bank of America have caused if you live in the US.

EA sucks and this is a gaming forum, but lets have some realistic perspective here.

No doubt that there are global companies worse than EA.

AIG and BofA CEOs need to be quartered and their entrails strung up on their corporate HQ sign. But just sheer pissing people off and not giving a shit. EA wins.

Honestly, I would be disgusted if EA got the title of WCIA.  Yes, they're bad, but BofA has been making mistakes that potentially mess up peoples lives.  Accidentally giving people more debt due to mistakes, losing documents, etc. etc. (Read the article for examples it shows)  The worst EA has done is continue to spit out subpar entertainment.

valve is the worst company

Yeah but no one cares because they put games on sale every other day xD

We can say they are terrible at keeping promises, but they are not cheap

I think the consumerist article sums it up nicely

Moore’s note also marked the second time EA has tried to deflect criticism by pointing to previous winners of the Worst Company tournament, as if to mock consumers who dared to express their discontent with a mere video game publisher.

Make no mistake: Video games are big business. A company like EA — and Activision, Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Sony, etc. — merits just as much scrutiny as any other business that plays a leading role in a multibillion-dollar industry.

Are there worse business practices? Of course. Does the nearly cartoonish villainy of other companies merit attention? Absolutely.

But saying that EA is less important or deserves less attention than those other companies just because they're "not as bad" is a severe logical misstep. If someone mugged you and took your wallet, and then a week later your car was stolen, would either crime have any less effect on you? Would the first crime become less important by comparison? No. They both matter, because everything does.

It's the same as Steam using anti-competitive practices; one company can have far-reaching influences on an entire industry. You don't ignore them in favor of bigger problems, you inspect both.
