That's a nice pile of cash you've got there.

It'd be a shame if something were to...happen to it.

I only have a "gaming" laptop and I use the Acer Aspire 7750g-6857. It's around $700, and it makes ends meet for portable gaming.

It runs TF2 at 70-100fps on max vanilla settings, but will have the occasional lagspike where your fps will dip down to ~30.

It comes with Windows 7, 500gb harddrive, 6gb RAM, and some other fancy mumbo-jumbo.

1.) For your pops computer, all you need is a well-rounded i5 or i3, dont even buy a video card, the integrated intel ones are great for anything short of hardcore gaming.

2.)- PLEASE GET 16 GB ram!!! gEt 1616161616 if you plan on doing any kind of srs business nerdy computer stuff.

-Go with nvidia, amd is nice and cheap but lately ive been disappointed with all the features it lacks

-Cooling is only if you overclock, which I dont because it saves me money and stress with dealing with the OC scene.

3.)Anti Virus Upgrade???

All you need is Microsoft Security Essentials (which is free) and enough common sense to not download random crap or visit sketchy websites. Everything else is a waste of money and resources compared to MSE + common sense.

4.)Just save your money and wait for windows tablets/slates with directx compatible graphics cards.

1) Don't get a graphics card, waste of money. Stick with an i3, it's perfect for what you described.

2) Get an SSD. Seriously. For the extra money, it's 100% worth it. Get a 128 or 256 gb SSD for your OS, commonly used programs and games. Then stick all other shit on a backup 1TB HDD. It's what I use, and I love it.

3) Anti virus programs are a complete waste of money. The best out there are free. Try AVG free 2014, Spybot search and destroy and Malwarebytes.

I made a cheap computer build for myself a while back, but never ended up using it. Maybe it'll help you with #1

Less than $500

By the way, pcpartpicker is the perfect site for this kind of thing if you haven't heard about it yet.

What exactly is the problem here? It's a list of parts for a cheap pc build with a very helpful site centered around computer building.

I never said you had to copy it. If you had your own ideas for parts, that's fine. I just gave a suggestion that I thought would help.

AVG. Free and great.

1) i3-4130 ($125), 8gb ram ($75), Rosewill 450w psu ($45), Asus H81-M ($50), 1tb WD 7200rpm ($60), CoolerMaster T4 ($30), Random case ($50~), Random Monitor ($130~), Keyboard/Mouse ($50-100). Total: $700~ (w/ tax)

2) 8gb ram > gtx 780 > Samsung 840 SSD > other.

3) External Hard drive: western digital my book, always. Range extenders: avoid them, they all suck--just centralize the router and/or get a better one. Anti-virus: AVG its free.

My antivirus is Malwarebytes and common sense. It works pretty well. You don't really need an antivirus to be honest, but download Malwarebytes just to be safe. You don't need to buy the full version unless you watch porn.

1. Is the T4 really necessary? Assuming it comes with a stock cooler, that should be more than enough. Besides that, this is a great option.

2. Yeah, I agree. Unless you're doing insane things in SFM, 8GB of RAM will be more than enough. I have 16 GB, and with Chrome + Steam + Skype + Goat Simulator + TF2 + Civilization 5 + running a stress test in MSi Kombustor, my RAM usage peaked at 7.38. At this point, you're not going to see any improvement in performance from an extra 8GB. Open Task Manager and look at the Performance tab. If memory usage gets over the 8GB you currently have, then by all means, get an extra 8. But it would be a waste of money that could be spent on an SSD, which would really speed up your computer. Also, GTX 770, 780, R9 280X and 290 are all great options. 290 is probably the best option for your needs, but it's quite pricey. If you're struggling between the 770 and 280X, go with the 280X. It will perform a lot better at high resolutions, and you say you plan on getting a second monitor? It won't hurt.

3. lol i just connected my router to another router. It works pretty well.

It's better than nothing. My main router is pretty decent, too.

My father requested me to help him build a computer that he can mainly do taxes at other bookwork on, any suggestions on what to get (ill need lots of storage, lower video card, less ram, etc)

Get a decent MoBo, $50 video card, Intel i3 or i5 or AMD would work fine, 4GB of Ram, 20inch monitor, a Logitech mouse and keyboard combo, decent case, a combo cd drive, cheap power supply, and a 3TB HDD was on sale for $90 last week. www.tigerdirect.com is a good website.

2nd:

I'm looking to upgrade my computer with the following

-More Ram (~8 gb) -wait for a sale

-More Storage (~1TB) -easily less than $100, wait for a sale

-Another Monitor -sales are cool, I got a 24inch Samsung for $110 from Staples, 50% off.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=8574052&sku=UPS-102014728 -Lookie Lookie, 32' for $160. Not bad.

-Graphics Card Upgrade (or something I can add onto my current one) -Easy, and you know, sales.

-More Cooling -Don't know enough about water cooling to know if you can afford it.

-Better Mouse -Corsair Vengeance M95 or Logitech G502 Proteus Core, both $80.

-Better Keyboard -Just over $100, Logitech is cool.

-Better Headset -Sales are unbelievably still cool. I got a decent one for $40, $60 is a range for good headsets.

-Webcam -See above.

Price Range: ~$1,000

3rd:

In the efforts to upgrade my home system, I've come up with the following list of items to add

-Anti Virus Upgrade -Not worth it, just be smart.

-External Harddrive For the 5 Laptops in the family (It'll have to be compatible with windows/mac) -Good luck finding one you won't have to reformat.

-Wifi Signal Extender -Get a new Router

Price Range: ~$250

4th:

A Gaming Laptop (Preferably Windows 7, dont really need to overclock, just for casual gaming)

Price Range: $750 -Wait for the new Logitech series to come out, then buy one of the ones that are out now when they inevitably become cheaper. They were recently on sale for ~$800. Although the power brick is a BRICK and the wireless isn't the best.

I know that the 75% of the items on my 2nd list needs to fit with my current system, just looking for ideas of what works best for you, etc
