Best/Worst Effects of Summer 2024

Considering I've done this poll over the years, polar used to a long time ago, 1 from angel and another from Punishment_Fatal, it's time to check on our Summer 2024 Unusual Effects now the event is over!

Summer stuff were a bit hit or miss for me. I really liked the Bountiful Riches effect though.

whoever is voting distant drift as the worst effect, over 2d flame mohawks, 2d anglerfish effects, and the tiny butterfly effects is out of their minds.. those effects are so bad..

distant drift definitely isn't my favorite effect from this update, but saying it's the worst one is CRAZY

 

taunt effects this year are actually all pretty good. only one I'd say I actively dislike are the coins ones.

the weather (monsoon/desert), fireworks (fiesta royale is basically a better showstopper), and the dragonflies ones are all really nice imo.

For taunt effects I don't really like any of them a lot. Electrocution is pretty amazing for how cheap it is though, I don't know how people can vote it the worst, I'm surprised godlike is the best since it doesn't really look that good on the taunts I've had it on, not really 3D at all.

It wasn't me but...

Distrant Drift worst fr because it costs the most (totally). Makes my bank account hurt 

 

Jokes aside, all my votes were basically popular the opinions (I'm a sheep)

Butterfly Season is grandest and yummy. I love Butterfly Season. Yummy.

But I voted for Bewitching Bugs like a coward. I regret that.

I voted for Teamwork Valorance even though I don't truly believe it's the best effect, I'm just really happy I got it on my Director's vision

Bewitching Bugs is top tier because it feels like an old windows novelty toolbar popup

 

people hate Butterfly Season but in truth i'd massively take it over Loyalist's Coronet or any of that trio. they are ms paint brushstrokes stapled to your face

I really like Cuban Smoke and Psycho-delic. Distant Drift is a little basic but still nice but it being team-coloured means it's inconsistent for making combos so that's a small minus in my opinion.

I don't "really like" these two but I think they are the nicest ones in the case, Cuban Smoke being my favorite effect from the case. That being said I have no real desire to buy/trade any of these new effects. The 2D ones actually offend me and it's amazing Valve would actually put them into the game.

I honestly think psycho-delic is the worst one in the case, it's really ugly in my opinion but its good to see people do like it.

If old Halloween effects were released today, people would say the exact same thing. Its never about aesthetics, its about what people are used to wanting or placing value on.

I wanted to unbox a little more this summer but honestly with the number of bad effects (like the 2D and fish ones) I thought it was too risky and not worth it. I don't mind low tier effects but even those should feel thoughtful and well made (think massed flies and nuts n' bolts). There are some bad effects that legitimately would irritate me if I unboxed them so yeah, nope .

Here's how I rate the unusual hat effect tiers.    

 

 

 

I also think that a recap video like this helps to get a feel for the effects.  Another way could be looking them up on loadout.tf

Interesting to see a bit later that there is an almost 3 way tie for best effect, distant drift has 16 votes, with cuban / reverie with 15. Best taunt seems to be obvious with godlike taking the cake and Butterfly Season by quite a lot being voted the worst cosmetic effect
