Halloween Spells 10 years after their discontinuation - how do you PC them / what are they worth?

Yesterday I was randomly approached by someone that tried to buy any and all halloween-spelled weapons (Spell; Exorcism on each) I had. Now I've not been in the TF2 market for 6+ years so I had absolutely no idea what they were going for or what an appropriate price was. BP.TF's pricecheck database on this was (no offense) utter garbage on at least offering some form of guidance or info on it; Its last info I could find on Halloween Spell: Exorcism dates back 9 years, and for some reason I cannot find the Halloween Spell tag on items anymore when refining item stats.

So, initially they were offering me 5 keys (including for those that were Spec Killstreaked Stranges/Genuines with add-ons, which immediately conveyed a message this offer was likely a lowball offer. On top of the fact that I learnt in my near 7 years of absence, these items were NEVER released again (thus; discontined items). So I spent like 30 minutes trying to find any info at all about what they were worth and if 5 keys was even a fair offer.

I found neigh no info at all but two (old-) posts:

- One post from 9 years ago was an accepted price-check status to up the price of Halloween Spell; Exorcism to 3 keys.

- One post from 2 years ago explaining where someone warned a likewise encountered offer that base-kit Halloween; Exorcism Strange weapons were being traded for 30 keys and above. EACH.

But to repeat, this is all old/dated info, and a lot of tips or guidance that these posts used to offer (like clicking the 3 dots next to a base weapon's stats page to toggle/filter the Halloween Exorcism tag) don't exist anymore. Or at least, I could not find any as such.

Where do I even go or what do I even do to figure out what is an appropriate price to sell them for, should I not risk selling discontinued items for much cheaper than that they are worth?

spells don't add

seriousness reality aside, I'd suggest asking spelled traders around, they're always happy to guide you but ask a few just in case they just want to take them off your hands.

Spells are one of those "they suck because they're in your inventory / they're amazing because they're in mine" qualities so if someone wants to buy them, see how high you can go.

But yeah 5 keys for all the stuff you've got off of a brief glance at your spelled stuff, which is some decent stuff by the way, is definitely a lowball.

No idea about current spell prices but 5 keys total for 9 spelled weapons is an insane shark price, the weapons alone without the spells are worth more than that.

(if it's these weapons, hard to tell with your private steam)

Pretty sure somebody on here will give you a decent price check for all the spells you got, doesn't seem like there are any hard to price/very rare ones among them.

If you're interested in selling them, open the classified listings for the item, filter for your specific spell, then look at sell orders on the left, buy orders on the right. (Often times the highest buy order is for double-spelled, but they'll also write their single-spelled price in text). In my opinion, start off each item at 1 key less than the lowest sell order. For less common items with few/no reasonable sellers, start at double the buy order price and then work your way down if you get tired of having it listed. Many of these buyers have notifications on for new spelled listings and will actually pay a little more than their buy orders.

For reference, highest buy orders for your specific single-spelled items as of this comment:

Your Eternal Reward: 13.7 Keys

Jag: 4.5 Keys

Black Box: 3.1 Keys

Crossbow: 15 Keys

Machina: 4 Keys

Grenade Launcher: 1.5 Keys

Baby Face: 6.3 Keys

Carbine: 10.8 Keys (13.88 for any ProKS, costs 3 to buy a kit and slap it on)

Equalizer: 5.3 Keys

(The prices seem all over because it's heavily dependent on how many spells were applied on the specific weapons. Counter-intuitively, popular stock weapons are often worth the least)

Realistically they can get about 100~ keys total for all of them in a reasonable timeframe.

Your Eternal Reward: 25 Keys

Jag: 8 Keys

Black Box: 5 Keys

Crossbow: 15 Keys (buyers at same as sellers, funny item https://gyazo.com/afb5b3e4fa92864b7b24fae58329e19e )

Machina: 10 Keys

Grenade Launcher: 4 Keys

Baby Face: 7 Keys

Carbine: 15 Keys

Equalizer: 12 Keys

Help me understand, what's the difference between the left side and the right side listings? I noticed that the buy listings are standing on 39 keys for the crossbow, namely.

The left side are sell orders, while the right side are buy orders

As others have already said, the buy orders in the Classifieds section (the listings on the right side of the page) will give you a starting point for how much each is worth. Multiply the highest buy order value for your specific spell by 150% to 200% to get a better reading.

The profit margins on spelled items are enormous due to wide spread ignorance of their value. I really wish backpack.tf priced spelled items. So many people have been sharked and will continue to be sharked when it comes to spells.

This is a really general "minimum" thumb that I follow, though it may be incorrect

Exorcism: Adds at least a key (way higher if its on something like an aussie or rarer item)

Paint Spells: Adds 2 keys to common uniques, 3-6 keys on other uncommon things, more on rare.

VFB: Seems to add 5 keys to common uniques, a lot more on rarer things

Footprints: Can add 15 keys to common uniques, a lot more on rarer things

No need to spread incorrect information

Spells are something that CAN NOT be just given a general rule.

The market is extremely unpredictable as it goes completely based on rarity and popularity.

If you know "it may be incorrect", why did you choose to write it down and mislead others?

Data from me: SS Demoman's Fro sold for 4 keys and 11 keys, CC Vampyro sold for 7, 8 keys, SS Buck Turner All-Stars sold for near 25 keys, DJ Mann of the Seven Sees sold for 5 keys, DJ Endothermic Exowear sold for 3 keys, CC Ground Control sold for 5 keys, SS Filamental sold for 12 keys, SS Blighted Beak 12 keys, SS Dr's Dapper Topper about 4 keys...

"Add 2 keys to common uniques" what?

I mean, it would be better to present evidence.

I saw this mentioned too on a steam forums guide. But akin to the rest of the info, it was very old, dating from 2019.

Yep, I think Bentry might of missed the "minimum" part, as his examples all listed ones that sold above the minimum I put :P

Okay, all spelled items are above 1 ref, sell your for 2 ref to me. Your post just like this.

I assume that many beginners have been misled by outdated spell lists. This is why traders always manage to make huge profits from spell trading.

Just like SS Demoman's Fro sold for 4 keys and 11 keys.

It's like painted items, except with arguably less market manipulation

Oh boy, STRNGR
I bought a strange uncraft VFB veil for 40 keys, pretty cheap
A few months later STRNGR offered 35 keys since I was re-selling for 40, took it since I needed the keys
So I pretty much bought a good snipe I could've re-sold for 60 keys only to be nabbed by someone for even less while they sell it for 65 keys

Comes out as ignorance to me...

Easiest way to go about things;

Check on backpack.tf for the same item. Take a logical look at the sell order. If there are none, either ask someone who trades a lot of spells or simply offer a non-offensive offer. If you don't know the market, don't act off of your ignorance, especially if you deep down know what you're doing and you've traded for years.

I'd love to see a non-scam or a massive cashout where someone fairly buys a paint spelled of the higher grade for 2 keys above market lol
