Reminder on Spells

Recommended Posts

As Halloween approaches, many people will seek to buy/sell spelled items.

The number of faked items is higher than ever, please be wary

Spells in white text with quotations are fake
764E8A68316BBDB93573EFA43A03CED4DBC22755

Spells in blue text without quotations are real
72CB954AB9E6CD443E6EFAFC2029454812754AC2

This holds very true on steam market, but also for person to person trades.

Be careful, don't get fake spell scammed.

Baffles me how this is still a thing in 2022. Considering that this also happens on Backpack, even if on a minor rate, it would be good to recommend the use of the Spells filter.

setting your steam language to something not english instantly defeats these scams

That would require knowing a different language 💀

As an American that sounds like communist propaganda.

Damn, all these years, spent hours to find a way to sort fake and real spelled items, even thought of a bot or a enhanced searchbar which could make the difference between bb colors of specific terms in the descriptions (but this would have sent a shit ton of requests on steam servers), but never thought of that 😮 I feel so dumb now

Well at least the fake items are limited to one language at a time. So even if the fake spell scammers list items with multiple languages they can't appear in every spell search.

there's also one guy (same avatar) who's trying to sell many different stranges for 1,49 with fake exorcism spells on them

steam taxes + cost of the stranges and you're left with what ? 1€ if not less

a shame you can't really report them

yeah its really unclear why valve hasn't added a filter on description/name tags in general

they updated unusual effect text to be yellow with the star  (this was originally used to fake unus effects too)

but in reality, they just need a way to wipe anything purely cosmetic off an item or search

what good purpose could showing name/desc tags possibly serve on SCM?

I'd really they rather just wipe name/desc on listing (not from item I guess, but not part of the listing)
