Hi, I was reading the rules of backpack.tf and read that you can gain trust ratings by participating spycrab, which I believe is betting an item with another player to perform a specific taunt which only involves luck, I want to learn more informations about that, how do I do it precisely, how do I provide proof, is there specific rules/servers and where can find them ?

Farming trust by brokering is also considered fraud ? I will look for the definition of fraud right now.

The reason you need to ask is because the whole thing is unregulated. People "farm trust" (just the wording implied you are doing it for malicious reasons) with this unregulated gambling, then commit fraud/scams with the trust. Anyone who is checking trust to do a cash trade would ignore all spy-crab related trust. There have been people trying to remove spy-crab trust as a thing (I am also in favour).

First thing, don't "farm trust", earn it.
Second thing, earn it through cash trading/brokering with users who already have good, verifiable trust.

Third thing, document everything.

I just read the definition, trust ratings by spycrab isn't against the rules, read the community guidelines and rules of backpack.tf, I want to have more trust on my account and I don't see any problem with that, I can't do brokering because I don't have enough keys for that and spycrab seems good to me

I don't even understand what you're doing with the trust if you consider yourself to be low-tier. Are you going to do cash trades?

I don't want to scam or do any malicious related things, I want my profile to look better, I'll ask somewhere else if I'm bothering anyone, I read the rules and saw that you can gain trust by spycrab so I want to do it

In all honesty, the trust that you would earn though this method would be worthless for anything but spycrabbing, and even then it's worth a whole lot. Trust is really only worthwhile when received from doing cash trades, working as a broker, or lending/borrowing keys/items Even then, rep is only somewhat useful seeing as someone could easy earn rep legitimately with the intention of pulling an exit scam later down the road.

Why do you need the rep in the first place? If you're just doing normal trading it really doesn't make much of a difference unless you've got negative rep.

You do you but this sounds like a waste of time to me.

To answer your question, you need the other player to leave a +trust rating on your profile. Proof helps (a full screenshot of the trade and maybe one confirming who won). Again, this can be done without ever having spy crabbed so anyone who knows about trust will ignore these posts. The other thing is that people who lose to you won't leave ratings because

  • They lost and are salty, and
  • They send you something so there is no trust from you, only from them

I really can't condone trying this. I don't think there is any reason for trust when it comes to spy-crabbing. But then again I am averse to spy-crabbing all together. There are quicker ways to lose money.

This is what I've been trying to say. The only people who will use this trust are new players who don't understand trading and this is why I am concerned about the whole scamming things. Your profile will only "look better" to little kids with mummy's credit card and that's not something we condone in this community.

Then be better. You earn trust by being trustworthy and letting it come naturally. Trying to get it any other way defeats the entire purpose and value of it.

No only does it defeat the purpose of having trust, it is also counterproductive for the OP. Having a bunch of recent (presumably low value) spy crab rep on a BP with a history and value like OP's would look bad anywhere that positive rep would actually be needed.

I'm overally unlucky so I'm expecting to loose, and since a lot of people get salty and quit, I can leave -rep on their profile for everyone to know that they're untrustworthy, on the other hand, loosing and leaving a +rep for respecting the spycrab and sending the bet to the winner, shows trust.

There are still people talking about scamming in the answers, I already answered that I just want my profile to look better, and it's my choice to have it with spycrab, I'm not asking opinion about what you all think about it, I'm asking informations, this question will stay on the forum and my backpack.tf is linked to the forum I think, don't hesitate to stalk me if you really think that I'm a scammer.

Yes, I think that you can follow this topic to have notification when someone post on it, i don't know if there's a bot but I'd suggest writing it in an event on google calendar or something like that

as I said I want trust for my profile to look better, I tried brokering 2 years ago but couldn't succeed at all.

I'm still not sure why you *need* this trust. For the type of trading you're doing and even for most unusual trading your profile looks fine. You wouldn't need the trust until you started cash trading or brokering and by that point the trust you would have earned from spy crabbing would be useless unless you've got a bunch of rep from high value crabs where no middle man was used.

You're free to do what you would like, but as has been mentioned multiple times in this thread do not be surprised if gaining "trust" this way ends up making people less likely to deal with you in situations that actually require trust. The method you're planning on using to gain trust is a common way for low end scammers to make their profiles look more legitimate before they start scamming people.

Regardless of your true intentions you will be making yourself look sketchy to anyone but inexperienced traders and low value spy crabbers.
