Don't.

If you must unbox, don't, and instead use an unusualifier. Guaranteed unusual, very good chance of breaking even or making profit (especially if you're patient and wait like a year), and even if you do lose money, you'll lose far less compared to unboxing.

If you must unbox a crate specifically, unbox anything other than the new Halloween case. Everyone will be doing that, and if you are banking on rolling an unusual, it'll be far more interesting (potentially 1:1) if you get an effect on one of the hundreds of other cosmetics in TF2. I'd recommend older Halloween cases with nice/popular cosmetics in it, one of the nicer KS Kit crates (I think it's in the 80s in series number) or the summer/tough break/mayflower/rainy day cases. I wouldn't recommend a winter case, since Christmas cosmetic + Halloween effect is pretty disjointed.

That being said, this Halloween case does have pretty much exclusively all-class cosmetics, and mostly good-looking ones at that, so that could be nice. Then again, you could just unbox an Unlocked All-Class Crate and guarantee an all-class...

unbox anything thats not the new cosmetic case tbh. the new hats are shit but the effects are neat, you'll be better off unboxing older cases with better hats that have a chance of being a halloween usu

Unbox cases, not crates, except for the new Halloween 2021 cases. Unfortunately, you can no longer unbox Halloween effects on hats from crates during Halloween, but you can unbox Halloween effects on hats from cases. If you get really lucky, you'll unbox an Assassin or Elite grade that's a 1-of-1 with a new Halloween effect. That's extremely unlikely, but if it were to happen, you could likely charge over 1000 keys for it.

I'd recommend Mayflower cases if you want to break even or profit without any unusual unbox as there's some good content in there like those elite grades. Coming to the unusual side, there's some good unusuals that can be unboxed and 2 quickswitch miscs for pretty popular classes. Also, tough break is good but you'll be disappointed if you don't unbox unusuals as the content there is worth few refs, it's like either hit or miss. I don't really recommend crates as the halloween effects can't be unboxed unless it's a case but not crate.

This. Mayflower seems like the one nowadays, 3/4 Unusuals would be top-tier and the Airdog is, while low tier as shit, gonna have a new effect so it shouldn't be too hard to shift for a decent price before October is up.

Go big or go home with a Quarantined Collection case. Sure, you'll waste nearly 10 bucks on one crate, but if it pays off*, you get a nice jackpot.

*it won't

Same as everybody else.  Old crates with the hope of getting a nice new effect on an old hat that will be less common after the event, since it's no longer unboxable.  Was happy to snag a shrieking shades field practice, since it pairs nicely with haunted ghost miscs:
