Golden Pan being used as a currency

Recommended Posts

Me personally, I've done a couple high tier trades, however I've never used a golden pan in one. But thats beside the point.

Way back when, buds used to be a primary form of currency. I'm not sure how often they're used now a days though.

I feel like, since pans move around a lot, and are involved in a lot of high tier trades n stuff, it's price should be on the front page of backpack.tf, like how ref, keys, and buds are?

Plenty of open room to the right of the buds, or even, just remove the buds (again, not too sure how often they're used) and replace it with the pans price. I think it'd make sense, its quite a staple.

Thoughts?

Gpans are used mainly in unusual trades, granted the seller wants to look for unusual overpay in order to profit. There are a couple out there that are currently selling for cash and do usually sell for cash. On paper it may sound nice to have it displayed, but I would rather have a more convenient currency on there (like TOD tickets and/or max's heads)

I think that the gpan as currency would be too limited since people in the trading community that reached the milestone to actually use the gpan as an element for trading occupy a very small space, considering everyone. At least earbuds were a way easier and faster achievement to reach (so considering them as a currency in the whole economy scenario was sensical) and the gpan's value is increasing way faster than buds in the past.

As Beaser said, ToD tickets and max heads may be more convenient.

i agree to remove earbuds because of its constant fluctuation but i dont like the idea of using gpans because its price is bound to drop as it gets more and more common with time and so its price is not very stable and not only that but its currently so expensive that only a handful of people use them in trading

id say if you want to use a higher-than-keys currency, max's would be the best bet.  "fairly consistent" pricing, but also more accessible than a gpan

other suggestion would be something like strange pans, same reason as max's

I think you dropped an /s

The buds on front page is just an artifact of the old days, there really isn't a strong reason to remove them so why bother.

I don't think pans can become an official currency in the sense of keys/ToDs/ref* simply because there's not a lot in circulation (~16 on market rn) not to mention the fact their existence is random and not tied to something as consistent as store purchases*. One month there might be 1 pan drop, the next month 5. They do act like buds did as they can store pages of keys of value in 1 slot, but for 99.9% of traders they don't even come close to that value, let alone regularly trading that value. For most people you would want to use just normal australiums as they hold their value pretty well and can condense a wide range of keys depending on which aussie you are using, however since there's a 3000 inventory limit this condensing is hardly a problem for most people. Buds originally existed for trading window limits but now you can trade the full 3000 items in 1 trade, hence their fall from glory.

TL;DR Too unstable and vastly unreachable for the common trader to be needed to be officially put on the front page, and if you did you might as well include every other highly-liquid-price-stable item like aussies and ToDs.

*Ref isn't necessarily "consistent" since it's player dependent but you can pretty much guarantee there will be X +/- 5% every week/month/year of ref coming in, it is more of a currency out of necessity to subdivide below the value of a ToD since it is made up of the 3nrd lowest valued items, weapons (the other two lower be crates/cases and winter noisemakers).

If anything should be listen on the front page it should be the popular aussies like the RL or medi gun.

The price does actually move around on those sometimes, and they make great chunks of value to make a trade for a costly unusual.

Not really a point to it, as the only times g.pans are used in trades is for ultra-top-tier unusuals, which make up <1% of all unusual trading. Plus they just keep skyrocketing.

Personally if they're gonna add another currency to the front page or replace buds I'd rather it be Max's Heads. Tons exist, everyone knows what they are, and their prices have been fairly stable for 7+ years in spite of Buds and Bill's Hats falling off a cliff.

Why do people only support the God tier traders just so the rich get richer man, why don't we try and bring everyone to the same level.

Anyone can get to that level, with enough time and effort. Dont get me wrong, its difficult. I never used to spend money on this game, and I wouldnt really consider myself a "trader" per say, because I'm not too familiar on prices, or haggling or anything. Its simply just; If I see something, I want, I buy it. I dont trade for profit, I trade for looks. I enjoy making cool unusual combos and whatnot.

I know Orangezest rather well, hes in the top 100 backpacks, and currently owns the Darkblaze viewfinder. Its a 1 of 2, and the other one is in the #1 backpack which hasnt moved in years. From my experience with him, hes a rather talented trader, and he has only spent around 50$ on this game, or about 25 keys. Look at him now, hes got a 10000+ Key backpack. Its incredible.
