SteamDetective - Take background checking to the next level

[Abstract]

I've been using Augmented Steam for a good while to check profiles, but it missed a lot of things I wanted.

Because of this, I decided to make my own script to background check people quickly and thoroughly at the same time.

It's not 100% perfect for the moment, but I thought some people might find it useful, so here it is.

Current features (more added whenever possible):

Makes names strike through when banned on SR and/or BP

 

Shows account age and IDs + custom URL (if applicable)

 

Gets detailed information from the following websites and displays it on their profile:

• SteamRep (Ban status, tags, banned friends, history, forum threads, opt out status)
• Backpack.tf (Last visit, premium status, donations, inventory rank and value, trust, site bans)
• Mannco.store (Ban status)
• Marketplace.tf (Ban status)
• Scrap.tf (Ban status)
• Skial (Name history)
• VACBanned.com (Ban status + Name history)
• SteamID.uk (Ban status, recorded name count, recorded profile URL count, opt out status)
• SteamHistory.net (Username history, real name history, URL history)
• SteamTrades.com (Registration date and time, last visit date and time, reputation)

 

 

Adds a ton of research and archive links to allow you to dig even further if necessary

I am very happy with the positive feedback I've gotten over the past two weeks, really motivates me to make this project even better.

 

Upcoming features for next week:

• Integration of the SteamID.uk v2 API (you'll be able to check that information using an API key, just like backpack.tf)
  • Check amount of past bans (VAC, community, trade, game, etc)
  • View banned friend count (for VAC, community, trade, game, etc)
  • Name history count
  • Friend history count
• Add / edit / hide research links
  • This might take a while to implement properly, so will probably take more than a week depending on how things go.
• Togglable option to use rep.tf to view backpack.tf info instead of backpack.tf's API (less reliable and less info, but won't need an API key)

 

Things that might get added soon:

• SteamDetective website home page (https://steamdetective.com/, nothing there for now)
• Custom lists of profiles (more details on this feature when it gets added)
  • Potential scammers
  • Confirmed scammers
  • Cheaters
  • etc, subject to change
• MVM Lobby Info
  • Check if player is banned on MVM Lobby
  • Check tours played

As announced in the Discord server, a breaking change was introduced in backpack.tf's user info API today causing old versions of SteamDetective to not recognize "All Features" bans.

 

I would strongly recommend updating the script if you set an API key for backpack.tf in the settings (version with fix is >=1.5). As always, please report any issues if you have any.

Quick update (1.6): New websites have been added to the research and archives list, interface has been reworked to make links more compact and a couple more miscellaneous adjustments have been made.

Update (>=1.7): Skial module has been added, shows whether or not a user has played on their server before and their name history if they've played. Bans are not included yet due to having no API.

• Backpack.tf now displays "No account" if there's no visit recorded.
• No account statuses are slightly darker to make text easier to read and tell them apart from other statuses.
