Can't find the last person who owns an item

Hello,

 

So I was on backpack.tf, I was interested in an unusual and someone made a post to sell one, so I wanted to send a trade offer with him but he apparently sold it because I couldnt find the unusual he listed in his backpack. I really wanted this item so I went to the "history" of the item, but somehow the last owner doesnt show up, it only shows the guy who sold it. It says "last seen Monday, 8 march". So it has been more than a day now, and the last owner still does not show up, will it be ever updated ? Will I ever be able to see the current owner of it ?

 

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

You just need to wait until his backpack updates. Or ask previous owner

If you now update the backpack of the user who had this item (but doesn't anymore) then the item history page will show this header on top:

 Whoops! We have history for this item, but we don't have it on record as currently existing. It's likely something has happened to it:

• It may have been traded to an inventory that has not yet been parsed or accessed on the site.
• It may have been deleted.
• It may have been moved to a private inventory where we are unable to track it. It will reappear again whenever we find it again.

 

Most likely you've seen this text before on other items.

There are two possibilities here: the Backpacks need time to update, or the unusual was sold to a private backpack.

 

In the case of the former, all you need to do is wait a few days for Backpack.tf to update the backpack the Unusual is in. When that happens, the item history should update and show who the new owner is; in the case of the latter, your only two hopes are to ask the person who sold the unusual or pray that the private owner sells it a public backpack. I would wait 3-5 days for the history to update; if it hasn't by then, then add the previous seller and ask who he sold it to. I hope this advice helps you.

It sounds like you're saying that Backpack.tf is updating all our inventories "automatically". As far as I know, it doesn't. Someone needs to request the person's inventory for it to be updated.

Nope. API requests are limited, backpack.tf already struggles with current API limit, updating all inventories automatically is completely infeasible unless Valve massively increased the limit. If you look around you can sometimes find inventories that haven't been updated in years simply because no one checked them.
