Bidoofus
One of the first cosmetics I got ahold of when I first started playing TF2 back in late 2011 was a Dillinger's Duffel. I played regularly until about 2015 when I took a big hiatus from the game, and have recently come back to it since September of 2020. Point being, I recently realized that something felt off about the Duffel compared to what I remember from 2011-2012: I swear to god it used to leave a money trail behind you as you ran--but now it doesn't. I figured maybe it got patched out or was tied to my graphics settings, but there's nothing about the item ever having a money-like particle effect on either its wiki page, it's history page on backpack.tf (scroll all the way down), or on its workshop page (I even checked the creator's DeviantArt but only found this). My friends said they didn't see anything like what I described to them from their client side when I equipped it either. I mentioned this topic once to some others in another discord server, and there was one person who felt like they recall the Duffel having this effect. This just left me finding the situation even weirder, so I wanted to ask about it here. Does anyone know anything about this? I feel like there were other cosmetics that left trails behind them like this as well back then (though I'm unable to give any other specific examples of such cosmetics, unfortunately). At this point I'm inclined to believe it was some kind of server plug-in since I used to spend a lot of time back then on community servers, but idk. Seeves
Maybe you're thinking back to your days of 2fort? If I'm not mistaken when you run with the briefcase you leave a trail of papers behind you, maybe you got those two mixed up? Otherwise I'm not sure haha
Xorfizz
The only similar particles I can recall are the coin trail from the Treasure Hat, and the stamps from the World Travelers Hat. I remember playing when the duffel came out, but I don't recall it ever having a trail. (Although that would have made for a cool set bonus!) m.richer
The Dillinger's came out in the pyromania update in 2012. As for the money trail, I don't recall it ever doing this, and I do remember when the pyromania update first launched. heres a vid that was posted on August 1st 2012, about month after the update was released. No signs of money particles though =(
Bomsusik
Maybe you recalled it when you were carrying the briefcase and it seemed like money. But honestly there are many things that changed in TF2, paving it's way further into becoming a hat simulation.

Additionally taunting on a map you own map stamps for (even if you aren't wearing the hat) will cause a trail of stamps for a short distance after taunting.
