Swagman!
Been out of the game for about 2 years now and was looking to potentially get back into trading but even when I was in the top 100 back in 2017 there was a lot of talk about how the game was dying. So, I'm wondering now, whats is the current state of trading? Is there any way to make profit? Trade up? Are trade servers still active? Ignore the ban I'm working on it. Thanks in advance for the info.

Spyromancer
The market is still coasting along off inertia. Bots have cornered the profit trading market and it's pointless to attempt it without connects.

Snailiad
many legacy halloween/retired unusuals have doubled in price in the space of 6 months but continue to be sold. view that as you wish, be it a bubble about to burst, or an opportunity to double your money ez pz
IDGCaptainRussia
Miscs are growing in place as you'd expert There's a new type of Misc called a Quickswap, and while these aren't limited, halloween ones are, and those are going up on price too on specific effects but aren't too expensive yet. Retired gives people a sense of security from 100% unbox glitches or even the opportunity of other people unboxing their hats from regular unboxing. Not a bubble, a reality. Would you rather own something that’s dozens of other people own and will continue to grow in existence as more get unboxed and will always be for sale and have seller competition or something 1 of 1 forever that no one will ever be able to get or sell unless you decide to let it go. There’s power with 1 of 1, collector wise and selling wise. As for higher number of existence retired effects or hats, they are still rare and collectible especially if collectors snag them all up and poof none for sale for who knows how long. But unboxability alone doesn't create demand, neither does rarity. Halloweens have been rare, nonunboxable for years. A relatively sudden spike in demand is pretty indicative of a bubble if nothing else immediately obvious, you know the rest

Halloweens have been rare, nonunboxable for years. A relatively sudden spike in demand is pretty indicative of a bubble if nothing else immediately obvious, you know the rest It does create demand as the supply is low and will stay low as the other boxable hats supply rises. More supply less demand. Less supply more demand. Reality is reality, there's no bubble. A sudden spike is because people are realizing that rare retired stuff is better. Look at the people who owned dozens of burning god tier hats and had them drop in price by 5-15x their value all because of the fact that they were boxable. The supply of boxables will rise forever. The supply of unboxables will stay as it is forever. I had a scorching KE when it was 2300 keys and around the same time had a knifestorm stash that was 300 keys, if I would have stayed with the Scorching KE I would have lost around 2,000 keys, if I stayed with the knifestorm stash I would have made around 1000+ keys at least. The list goes on and on, hellfire virtual viewfinder, nebula captain space man, all the god tier racks, any misc tbh, amaranthine polar pull over, all the god tier stashes, my list goes on and on of shit I use to own and none of the boxable stuff went up, it all went down so much it's dirt cheap and literally the retired stuff replaced those god tier 1st gen hats with high existence numbers. It's just a shift of the value of hats. Rare retired replacing the god tier 1st gens that were high in existence number. Dang Burning KE was like 5,5000 keys or something while it had a lot in existence and boxable. It makes a lot more sense for these nicer effects that are unboxable and rare to replace those inlfated 1st gen god tiers with high numbers of existences that were continuing to be unboxed as they were boxable the whole time and still are. If anything, our community is getting smarter with the spike. We see the opportunity and grab it, others can watch. If you compare how much burning and scorching use to be to the current god tier effects, the current god tier effects are still cheap and much more better as they are forever retired, nicer, more exotic, different, and have much more of a variety to choose from. Burning and scorching was always boxable, high in existence (inflated) and use to be more than what our current god tier effects are selling for, that indicates a rise to the current god tiers, but the way I see it, it's just a shift, put the cancer away and place the best stuff up. Reality is reality. People who say bubble don't realize reality and will watch in the sidelines as people who do realize take advantage. Try selling something that has tons of sellers, when a buyer comes along, the sellers can and do undercut each other. Now try selling something that's super rare like a 1 of 1 or even a 1 of 3 that has two collector owners, you will be the only seller and won't have to worry about undercutting or being undercut by other sellers. Why compete with other sellers when you can be the only seller? Why buy something that'll keep getting unboxed when you can get something that won't be unboxed. Why not just get a 1 o f 1 so you are the only owner in the world, at a collectors view that's much more unique than collecting a say 1 of 10 or 1 of 100 in existence hat that'll continue to grow in existence. What's so special about the rare stuff? Well when someone wants it they can't get it if the owners say NFS F*** off or else i'll block you which is very common for collectors that own rare stuff to do. What's so special about high number of existence stuff that's boxable? There will very likely always be a seller. It feels better to own or flex something that no one else can get unless they buy it off you. Haha go flex something that's boxable and or high in existence, the people who you flex on can buy it for dirt cheap or buy a better hat for cheap and flex on you. Collectors go after the rare unboxable, not the common high in existence that continues to go up in existence. Try getting a hat from collectors, they probably won't sell it even for stupid high prices because they like having something that super nice and super hard to get or maybe even not obtainable as lots of rare retired stuff will never be for sale. Go after a boxable high in existence, you will always be able to get it anytime and get it for cheap and there will be tons of sellers trying to get rid of it so they will undercut each other. I literally hit up all the collectors asking to buy their rare retired super nice hats and I use to god tier trade when swagman was trading so I know first hand what the f*** going on. Why get cheap stuff that everyone will always be able to get when you can get rare retired super nice stuff that no one else can get it unless you sell it (1 of 1 ) or if they are all owned by collectors (1 of 2 and above to an extent). Not only is the rare retired stuff better in terms of scarcity but also in terms of how nice they are. The old retired effects are nicer and have much more variety than the common inflated boxable effects. Why do I not hit up common hat sellers that have common boxable stuff? Because that stuff will always always always be up for sale, more and more will be unboxed and there's already too many of them in existence to begin with. If anything they might even go down as they get more supply and I can wait later to go to the multiple sellers and have them undercut each other so I can bargain the best price. If I wait to buy rare retired super nice effects then I would loose money as they go up because they get more and more collected and NFS as they arent unboxable so I can't rely on them getting inflated and they are so so much more nicer and have so much more variety to choose from.
