Did something big happen on July 25-26th?

I've seen some people talking about 200,000+ keys popping up out of thin air. Would explain the sudden drop in key values.

What I haven't really seen is people talking about volume sales of keys on the scm. They went from a few thousands per day forever to hundreds at the same time as the key population spike.

Thoughts/Conspiracy Theories?

money laundering? [question mark]

Plausible, however it's more likely that there was a backpack parsing wave that increased the amount of keys seen so far.

I think that's a very likely explanation.

See what actually happened is that Gaben wanted to spice things up a bit and accidentally pushed the wrong button.

Probably influx of cs traders using tf2 keys as currency idk

mb thought you meant last year. I'll have to agree with the cs trader switching to tf2 currency theory, but the timeline might not fit, as the changes to csgo trading limitations were implemented long ago.

It could’ve been the steam api being down for 2+ weeks. If u remember, backpacks were not updating from like July 12 to July 30 or so. So the keys might’ve came from steam api returning and backpack finally being able to parse backpacks.

actually?

Wouldn't surprise me. My conspiracy theory is a scammer operation or dishonest dev used TF2 as a means of cashing out of steam.
