PSA: TF2 and CSGO Source Code Leaked,

What does this mean for CSGO?

Likely not much, since CSGO has had so many updates, the leaked code probably isn't relevant anymore. Still the potential for things to come out of this though, but if true, Valve will patch/fix it ASAP.

What does this mean for TF2?

Unclear right now. Many speculate that it means people can use remote execution bugs to install malware onto your PC, while a few others (mostly idiots probably) fear you can get your account or inventories hacked. There is a very high possibility that people can and will use the source code for malicious attacks on your computer, and this can happen on all servers public and community.

Many people are pointing the finger at VNN for this, but as it stands there isn't really much evidence for or against him, and he swears it wasn't his fault, so we'll have to see what happens.

In addition, creators.tf currently redirects to their twitter page, they've shut down their servers "for the foreseeable future" due to this event. https://twitter.com/CreatorsTF

Edit: Rumor has it that this is also affecting offline servers and other Source games.

Edit 2: Please view this community post for all relevant information: https://steamcommunity.com/app/440/discussions/0/2270320616957466159/

At this time, it appears that only a few files shared by TF2 are in the source code, most of it is for CS:GO, meaning TF2 is likely fine to play now.

About Csgo even if its old source it doesnt mean that it isnt relevant, its not like right now csgo has a fully new source, it still contains alot of older source which might result in exploits etc. Dont just rely on the thing that it is 2017 2018 source. Anyway we will have to see.

first of all good name, bacon is love. Secondly this can happen on any account, both inactive or not. Tf2 is for sure more at risk

Thank you. I already withdrawed all my items from mp.tf and set my inventory to private. I advice all of you to do the same

Yeah, even if this has nothing to do with items, I'm not taking any risk with having a mp.tf bot holding any of my items.

^^ As a developer I would highly recommend uninstalling all source engine games that support multiplayer. Once they are uninstalled write down your hours for tf2/csgo and check them daily, if they go up during this 'blackout'  period you've been compromised. A rather rudimentary way to keep tabs on the situation. Stay Safe everyone

Mhmm yea can't wait for a week of a bunch of people bullshitting about all the "possible risks" since the source code has been leaked. Blowing things out of proportion and causing panic is so entertaining /s

RCE can't be done if you aren't on a server, in particular on the same server as exploiter with active exploit on hand. Stop fear mongering.

I don’t know where you’re getting that from but that seems very unlikely.

Read Chucks comment above.

And because:
TF2 https://steamcommunity.com/app/440/discussions/0/2270320616957466159/

Nothing happens as long as you’re not in an online game from what is currently known.

Someone told me I need to make my profile private. Is that true? Does it help anything?

Not necessary

CS GO is safe:

Apparently i've seen that other source games might not be affected by this:

Might only be TF2 left for worry until a Valve update.

Looks like TF2 is safe as well, according to Valve. https://www.pcgamer.com/team-fortress-2-and-csgo-source-code-leak-raises-security-fears/

According to VNN, this code was actually leaked a while ago, bad actors had access to it for year and a half. That's where they found server crash exploit, among others. Everything bad that could've been done with it is already done.

This video probably has the most information regarding a situation.

Is it safe to trade?

From going off what Zeus said, you can trade, just not in an online server for no risk.
