Hoping some super-sleuth can help me out here. Anyone recognize this avatar? https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Unusual Skullbrero?filter=icefall

He has numerous listings on scm with 'Sparkling Lights Frozen Icefall Snowblinded Snowfallen Pyroland Daydream Reality as the nametag on their unusuals. just looking for someone to help me find their steam profile. Little project I'm undertaking.

pretty sure this is considered witch hunting but im fairly positive its this person: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198047941585

they have been doing this off and on all year, not really surprised, since the same thing has happened to the spell market, so many fakes and so many people fall for it, i've been reporting accounts that do this for awhile now, its so easy to scam people with a description tag.

Just filter by grade through the SCM, and when you're searching for the effect, use the whole name, like so  -  "★ Unusual Effect: Frozen Icefall".

It doesn't get rid of his listings, but it will certainly show the results you're looking for first above his.

I think the concern here is not so much about traders here getting scammed but the people out there who have no idea about trading/people just not paying enough attention looking to buy stuff off scm. More a question of ethics than a warning - I'd say most people here are already aware that this is a thing.

Due to the method he is using for the fake listings (spamming several effects in the description), you can filter out his results entirely via, for example, "icefall NOT pyroland". This searches for icefall, and purges any results with "pyroland". So basically when searching for an effect he has fake listings for, purge out another effect in the description.

I like this. Thanks! Didn't know you could do that with search results on SCM.

Somehow both the negative trusts are gone. https://backpack.tf/trust/76561198047941585

Somehow, some way, some one probably deemed what he is doing isn't misrepresenting his items intentionally. The intent is clear. It's obviously not 'just a joke bruh' or anything.

Thanks for the responses. I think unintentionally I may have kicked a hornet's nest here. Good to know for certain, that it is the same person I suspected. Without the aid of premium bp I couldn't search the history for the clarification myself. It's now crystal clear. Hopefully no one is bitten by this shady approach to description / name tag use. Glad to see the appropriate responses to this issue.

So.... moving forward... do you think with enough proof of clear malicious intent that valve would ban such an individual from making scm listings? Would the community like to see action taken on such users that try and perpetrate things like this?

Yeah, they removed my -rep. I get it, this is on scm and not bp.tf, but come on really? Are we not playing the same game here? This is still on the market and he is clearly using the new effects to his advantage to sell his shitty unusuals. I'm not even that mad about this entire thing but besides the fact that some gullible kid/dude/anyone could think it's an Tundra Topper with an new effect only for 75 dollars. I've seen this happen multiple times but you could say its the persons fault for falling for the trick. It's so close to outright scummy behavior right there.

They also say that the evidence I gave wasn't enough to proof its him. If you find the G.Energy Professors Peculiarity stats and click on one of the price suggestions and click on the item history, you'll see Uncles name on it and then click "last seen" you'll see on page 9 all of the unusuals that he has listed with the same level, paint and effect are on scm. How is that not enough of proof?  But hey, that's totally acceptable to allow a dude on bp to re-name all of his hats in the description to all the new effects to almost trick people into thinking that they're on this hat for this price.

It's also hilarious that he has a set list of rules of people who trade with (scammer, shark etc) but he himself is misrepresenting his items on scm. pfft, just sell your unusuals normal like everyone else does.

Honnestly that deserve some kind of trade ban or something, this is clearly an attempt of missleading some new traders.

And what if everybody is starting doing this, that would literaly be chaos on SCM...

"Did this user act as a fence for stolen items, OR DOES THIS USER PARTAKE IN ANY OTHER FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES?"

If you have answered yes to any of these, then you have a GOOD reason to give this user a positive or negative rating

If SCM transactions can be used to price hats, then they have to acknowledge scam attempts by active traders on SCM.

Removing -trust that provided evidence of a scam attempt is very, very bad.

Uncle Dang coming to this thread making a joke out of the situation would indicate guilt and very little remorse.

I completely forgot that they do sometimes use SCM to price a hat. Damn my dude. Yeah I'm pretty sure Uncle Dang is just laughing at us talking about this very subject right now. I have had people tell me that the mods know about Uncle Dang or of the sorts but they still look at it is "People can sell whatever items that Valve allows in SCM. There is no discussion, there is no notes, there is nothing. There needs to be evidence to back up those claims. Cannot do anything here unfortunately even if it may seem odd." I understand a mod is doing a job but when you think about it, if they price for lets say that Searing Shine Dome he has on SCM and they say "Well the dome sold for $250 on SCM but that person put all of the new smissass effects in the description, so would this technically work?" Very questionable behavior. But hey, I'm not the mod here lol.

Just FYI my report was first about 4 months ago: https://backpack.tf/issues?text=76561198047941585

Gotta love how in these cases Mods say "we cannot conclusively link accounts"

but when you offer a way to actually "link" them

they have to come up with another excuse "we cannot be sure why they do that"

e.g. https://backpack.tf/issue/5da3da946780723364125242
