Why are Keys selling for so much on backpack.tf compared to the price that they go for on marketplace.tf?

Key sale prices on Backpack: 54.55 - 54.77 ($2.182 @ 54.66 REF)

Key sale prices on Marketplace: $1.68 / 0.04 (1 REF) = 42 REF

 

Am I missing out on something?

If I had to hazard a guess, it would be because of Marketplace's tax on sales. On MP, since you only get three cents for every four cent Refined sale, it takes 56 ref sales to purchase a key at the current minute. In that sense it stays pretty consistent with the backpack value.

Nope, you get four cents for every ref sale.

Ref sales are going down overall over the last few months. It's honestly only a matter of time until they hit 0.03, and if marketplace somehow allowed users to sell for halves of a cent (idk, selling 2 ref for seven cents or something), then they would have already dropped down to that level.

Because the "real" price of ref would be like 3.2 cents or something currently, but you can't denote fractions of a cent on marketplace, so it's been rounded up to the full 4 cents. It will be an instantaneous drop to 3 cents before long.

Pretty sure items sold under 0.05 don't get taxed
