Q about trading

Hi, I used to be a pretty high tier trader back in the day, but when the trading momentum slowed down with the 3rd gen effects and gambling sites shutting down I eventually quit tf2 for years. Now, Im curious if trading is still a thing that works and how dead it is? Can someone give me their estimate on 10 point scale 1 being super dead and 10 being alive profitable thanks

Dunno how it used to be but I'd give it a solid 8. Certain forms of trading are all but dead (oddity items, low-tier unusuals), and the market is nothing like it once was, and with any kind of Valve support being centuries in the future some people question the longevity of the game, but all in all it's pretty kickin'.

Assuming you specifically mean only items within TF2 and person-to-person trading in-server this would be a solid 3 out of 10 at best and I mean it. There just are not that many different people still actively trading on servers, it's usually AFKs with trade binds. There is far, far more interest in selling a pile of Unusuals than there is in buying any. Whatever problems you've encountered in trading when you've quit have only compounded with a smaller playerbase and far more random Unusuals circulating.

If your intention is just to come back in with cookie cutter strategies, you've got to either be very lucky or break your neck adding every single possible lead you can get.

Otherwise, trading on sites is about as alive as before (sans most Gen 3 Unusuals).

It'll probably pick up again at Christmas though.

Edit: I'd like to also mention the elephant in the room that a lot of people trying to dip into trading (or even have done so for a while) are increasingly falling for account hijacking, sharks, and other complete scams that tend to completely turn people off from even participating in the market. This tends not to help TF2 avoid dying.
