2019 Unusual Values (plus the one I unboxed)

In general, which effects do you like, and how valuable do you think they are?

Also, how valuable of an effect is Wicked Wood? How does it shape up compared to its alternate version (the light green one)?

Lastly, how much would you value a wicked wood climbing commander (1 of 3)?

Thanks!

the trail ones (radiance/medley/essence) are very much like nether trail and ether trail just different colors. So not a big fan of them. Not unboxed as much as 5th dimension and wicked wood tho so they may hold value.

Menacing Miasma on the other hand is like time warp and green black hole except it's ALL GREEN! Definitely my fave! Aura isn't bad either. Bonus perk is neither are unboxed that much :) So might end up being very rare.

The vortex ones are kinda sucky. unless you like pinwheel 2d graphics. Everyone has off-loaded their effects quick. Will be lowest tier.

The dead forest ones are kinda blah. Tonnes of them unboxed too. 5th dimension was over-hyped. It as well was unboxed a lot. Seen quite a few and not a big fan. Some traders that have a vested interest in making them stay hyped are desperately trying to do just that, but most of them don't sell for anywhere near what the initial listings were for lol Kind of a mid-tier effect, maybe low-end high tier. We'll see what happens when a few ppl trying to buy them all and inflate prices run outa keys XD

your hat is an epic hat. 1 of 3 is pretty decent too for the effect. maybe 70 keys now (that's tops i would think). might be harder to get that by January

5d will probably be the highest; I personally I think its ugly since it just looks like a bigger version of smoking plus it doesn't pair with anything.

The trail effects will probably be the second most expensive, personally my favorite effects but the fifth dimension hype will overshadow them.

Not many people have unboxed compared to last year so regardless of the distribution rate (the trails being rarer and 5d being more common), it won't really effect the rarity. Like if there are seven of a hat with new halloween unusual effects unboxed, 4 of them might be fifth dimension and 3 might be some other effect, but it's still 4 fifth dimension hats, that's still rare compared to the amount of gateway hats we got last year.

And everything else is meh.

I liked Abyssal and Menacing but they are kind of ugly after closer inspection.

The smaller vortexes aren't that visible, it's okay if you like smaller subtle effects that aren't too flashy - but they do pair well with miscs with the same color scheme.

The woods are also nice and unique, definitely different from the usual cloud/smoke/spinning effects we usually get.

Individually Ethereal and the recolors are rarer, but this is because (presumably, and the results suggest this is the case) that Fifth Dimension is just weighted triple like Clairvoyance and Omniscient Orb were. Demand is going to be fragmented between 3 effects for Ethereal/others, but joined into a single effect when people try to buy/sell Fifth Dimension. More competition when selling Fifth Dimension, but also when trying to buy.

My thoughts

The trails will be the top effects this case. Suuuuper nice, I see Medley being the most popular of these because it's purple

Then the portals (although the green one is a rather ugly green)
Then Fifth Dimension (WAYYYYY overhyped and I see it sinking a lot)
Then Forests

Then Vortexes (though they don't look awful imo it's just a bit flat and feels kind of like a regular effect rather than a halloween)

Fifth Dimension: It's not going to be a top-tier effect like the initial hype made it seem, and I feel really bad for the people that spent hundreds or thousands of keys for FD hats in the first week thinking FD would be the next Bonzo. You can already get Bat Hats with it for under 100 keys when people were buying them for way more than that the first couple of days of Scream Fortress 2019. A ton of people are beginning to think it's not a very nice effect, especially since it doesn't combo with anything, and on top of that it's going to be extremely common due to having 3 times the chance to be unboxed as any other effect except Wicked Woods, which has double the usual chance.

Traiils/Light Effects: These ones I feel are going to survive the death of the Halloween hype and become high tier. Most people seem to love them, and I sure do too. They combo extremely well with a ton of effects, the green one works well with Arcana, the blue and purple ones are AMAZING with Nebula, etc. Others have pointed out they're too much like the trail effects from previous Halloween sets, but I disagree. I find these to be less boring and prettier.

The three portal effects: They're kinda okay. The problem is they're small and don't really combo all that well with anything. GBH/TW are practically double the size and cleaner looking overall. I thought they looked pretty awesome at first, but now I think the red one is ugly, the green one is underwhelming, and the purple is okay but still suffers from being too small to be neat. I have no doubt these effects would have been high tier if they were the size of GBH/TW.

The three pinwheel/vortex effects: Meh. They're actually a decent size, but are really hard to notice in anything but darker areas. The opacity is way too low on them or something man, the orange one in particular is harder to see than massed flies in some areas of Badwater/Upward.

The woods effects: Meh. Wicked Wood is decent but has the double unbox rate which will make it not as expensive as it could have been due to higher supply. Ghastly Grove is very mediocre because aside from the trees, you can't see the effect in any lighting environment except in dark areas. It has the same problem Searing Plasma has. Sure most unusual trade servers have low enough light for this to not be an issue, but 85% of the game's maps in Casual mode and otherwise have a lot of bright areas where that effect is hard as hell to notice. Plus, the effect is just boring, as it's a bunch of stationary black spooky trees and very hard to notice moving eyes / ghosts. Boring. And they're also very hard to notice at anything but close range.

I'm not super experienced or dedicated into unusual trading so I really can't make a good judgement/estimate on what the prices are going to look like after the hype is gone, but I agree with Alecto's order.

Trail/Lights > Fifth Dimension > Portals > Woods > Vortexes

If the portals were larger, the Vortexes had less opacity, and the Woods had a little more to them, this year would have been very awesome for Halloween effects.

This essay just reminded me of a class test in German I have next week, shit.
