The key recently value isnt profitable

The crazy key value isnt profitable and doesnt help with the situation, items got more expensive and cheap.

The economy will crash in some point and items will lose their value, the solution is getting back the old and profitable price of 30.33-30.44 refs.

I hope someone think the same and end the dissaster from the crate depression

oh god not this again

In all seriousness, there's still plenty of profit to be had as soon as you stop thinking in terms of ref and start thinking in terms of money (whether that's SCM or Marketplace, or a combination). In my own experience, it's actually better than ever before, but my view is definitely skewed

Hello I heard someone was complaining about keys going up instead of complaining about ref going down.

Allow me to copy paste this from the last post I replied to on a similar topic.

Of course it will crash, when only 200 people are left trading everything will be worth~ nothing :)

omg this 'topic' has been revisited for like 4 years now. tf2 is gonna crash / keys should be 3 ref again .... blah blah blah

MOM GET THE CAMERA TF2 TRADING IS DEAD... nope. still isn't after all this time. cashed out over $8k this year alone on 1 account. so no. it's not dead. yes 3rd gens are less desired by traders, but still sellable. people love unusuals so the crate depression only helped people wanting cheaper unusuals. yes, it's harder to make GOBS of profit like the old days. yes, it has become harder. no, this topic doesn't need to be brought up every 6 months.

what other game still gets updates after 12 years? that's right. NONE. (edit : 1st person shooter not some twelvie game :P)

totally off topic and ending before i puke a lil in my mouth after seeing another one of these 'keys should be xx ref again' posts

It's basic economics when there's a high supply of ref, with the demand of ref generally being stagnant, the price of ref will go down. The key however has been stable for a while, thus it takes more ref to trade to a bot for a key. TF2's economy is free market driven so we can't really enforce 30 ref per key without valve interference. Backpack's old price suggestion (2 months ago) of 42 ref per key was super outdated to the actual value of ref and doesn't really affect the actual price of ref as everyone was going to sell/buy their keys at 52 ref anyway. Ironically, the crate depression increased the value of ref as people wanted to cash out their keys they got back, effectively Valve accidentally stimulated the economy at the cost of 1st and 3rd gen value- 1st gen's decline was accelerated, 3rd gens got dunked on by Valve. Two months after, we're mostly back to the price before the crate depression at 52 ref ish. Honestly a real ref price decrease is stalled right now because of transmutes and after Halloween is over, it will probably go up to 60 ref per key until the next major update.

As for the economy crashing, yeah it's gna happen eventually with how valve is with updates. People trade to get cool stuff in the game and when there isn't constant new cool stuff in the game like fOrtNiTe or any other game, people will eventually leave without new shiny cool things to keep them attached. Less people trading means a weaker economy due to lower cash flow. It's a hard to swallow truth but Valve employees would rather work on other projects (VR sounds cooler than a 12 year old game) than the spaghetti that is TF2. There's no real solution to getting TF2 back to it's "glory days" other than pray that valve does something to stimulate player growth back to what it used to be or hope that TF2 gets revived like Minecraft with growing interest somehow (like pewdiepie playing TF2 or something).

Bottom line is, enjoy the game while it lasts. If you missed out on the crate depression's cheap unusuals, you can still get nice 3rd gens (DBD/C9/Miami) for like half the price they used to be. If you haven't spent money before, might as well sacrifice a key to our lord and saviour Gaben and you can essentially get full sets for each of your classes for $1.8 nowadays. If you're looking to profit, it's going to take a while depending on how you go about it. TF2 isn't supposed to be a job after all and any profit is "beer money" but it's still very possible to go from 1 key to unusual if you're really going for it and smart about it.
