How are more crates being created if the crate is inactive?

Hey guys if you look at the scream fortress case for example you can see that approximately 1000 are coming into existence everyday but the crate has been inactive(not dropping) for months now, how is that possible?

What has that got todo with the amount of cases showing in existence going up?

maybe some people didnt wan to sell it and then they decided to sell it.this case hasnt been out for a year yet plus its a war paint.not alot of people like unusual weapons/war paints nor the skin there isnt too desirable so that would the reason.give it a few years and then it will go lower in existence

My only assumption can be that items on SCM are being taken down, given BP can't recognise items on SCM. A thousand a day does sound absurdly high though, so I can't be sure.

These numbers are based on the number of crates found in users' backpacks scanned by backpack.tf. Maybe there are just newcomers to backpack.tf that have never scanned their TF2 backpacks before.

Backpack.tf does not know that the 140,000+ on steam community market (or anything else listed there for that matter) exist. I would say a lot of these new ones appearing are simply ones which have sold on scm and are now visible in people''s backpacks.
At this time of year, I wouldn't be surprised if people were starting to stock up for halloween unboxing in hopes of new halloween exclusive weapon effects.

You also have to factor in all the private backpacks. As by default, a new player will have a private backpack and won't make it public until they try to get into the trading scene.

While not quite 1,000, about 700 of that case are sold on the SCM each day. Though, it'll still take a while to burn through the stock of 145,000 cases up on the SCM presently.
