MLG mase
So I am new to unusual trading recently unboxed my first 2 unusuals and I made a post because of it recently about prices. I am looking more into what I want to trade for if I want to sell them and decided upon a Stormy Storm Killer Exclusive (almost positive I am going with this now) Problem is that some hats I was looking at were saying things like 100% clean and never duped. So I would click the item and see the same people on there more then once. Point is of this is that I need to know how do I tell if something is actually duped and what does it mean for an unusual to be clean? I know normal hats it means to be craftable but unusuals are all craftable so does it mean the history? and if so after about how long of a history does an unusual stop being "clean". I am about to go to sleep so I will respond to anything anyone says in around 16 hours thanks for the help ahead of time!
Vince
only when a copy is made by valve is a hat "unclean" a hat could have 20 user history and still be clean. a hat could have 4 user history and be duped just look into each hat you get offered btw: if you got offered a stormy ke on both of the hats, take it and run
Blatch
Duped Unusuals are hats that were restored to a player's backpack via Steam Support, and thus, multiple copies exist. If a hat is clean, that means only the one exists. For most lower value hats, and most Unusuals in general, whether a hat is duped shouldn't matter much. However, if a hat is duped to the point where it's the most common one to find on the market, or is a very valuable hat, then price differences might start to come into play. Para
An item is duped if it exists in two backpacks at the same point in time. Generally you can check if an item is duped by looking at the history on backpack.tf and tf2items.com, both of which will point out if an item is suspected to be duped. Generally an item may not be duped just because any of these sites suspect it, they simply check if an item was in the inventory of a user last time the backpack was cached. Opening the every users backpack on all sites that have a history of an item is really the only way to to say that there is no proof of an item being duped. 3rd party sites only detect when an item is stored in a users backpack if the backpack was cached while the item was contained in it. On a site like tf2outpost.com that doesn't point out dupes, a way to check is if an item goes from a certain item ID to a lower ID and possibly to a higher one again which would indicate an item being duplicated. Slocumruls
Changes of the current id from the same person generally indicates they tried to put the hat on the steam market.
NecroTed
This is how I tell dupes. I go to people's backpack.tf profile and look at their backpack (example: http://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198001375187 ) I click on the unusual I want to check. Then I click history and something like this should pop up: http://backpack.tf/item/462104881 As you can see, red text at the top indicates its duped. On the other hand, this doesnt seem duped: http://backpack.tf/item/306189941 Works most of the time for me. Also, duped hats (in case you didnt know) are unusuals that have at least 2 exact copies, usually occurs when an account gets hijacked and Valve returns the stolen items and the original one still exists. Usually, duped only matter on high-tier unusuals. With low-tier unusuals, they dont really matter. Hope I helped

MLG mase
I don't want to reply to everyone specifically to say the same thing so just gonna do this one post. Thank's for all the help and I will keep this forum post bookmarked so I can come back to use it for future reference thanks everyone Also just want to say someone just offered on my 2 unusuals a bud and 10 keys meanwhile I was told around 7 buds is a good spot to go from... I found it pretty funny as the guy replied to me saying no with its a good deal and then removed the keys for just 1 of the unusuals when I said no again he told me he had a hellfire towering pillar for an unknown reason... I can't wait for more of these people to add me instead of posting on the trades they get to me from
