How can you tell if a famous person actually gifted an item, and it wasn't a fake?

Title. Bought a new item for the meme, but out of curiosity want to see if the guy actually gifted the item or if it was someone else.

While looking at your backpack, hover over the item to bring up the pop up menu. Click the profile name in the "Gifted by" line to go to the profile that gifted the item.

Looking here. The profile is correct but they appear nowhere in the history of the item. Why would this be? Does it being Non-tradable at the moment have anything to do with it?

Being non-tradable will not effect the history of an item in any way.

 

People only appear in the history of an item if backpack scans that person's inventory while the item is in it. i.e. History's aren't a perfect record, just the record that backpack.tf actually has. So person who owned an item could simply not appear in the history because they didn't have the item for a long period of time or because their inventory was private at the time they owned it.
