Chief D
http://forums.backpack.tf/index.php?app=tickets I'm not sure how the system detects dupes, but brad will check it out on the ticket system.

t0night
i had a harvest moon baker boy, level 54. bp.tf says there's 2 in existence, there were 3 level 54s on outpost and 1 level 12 or something. Mine still showed up as clean looking at the history on bp.tf. I suspect that's cause mine was the original, but still it was clearly present in 2 other backpacks so I'm not sure what's up with that. Backpack.tf doesn't count dupes multiple times. I.e. if theres only one hat in existence, and it gets duped five times, backpack.tf will only consider one to exist. Also, there is no "original"; both are equally duped.

Also, there is no "original"; both are equally duped. and it still doesn't mark it as duped even if the system can obviously see and trace multiples of the same hat? seems a bit lax. and also surely it kind of depends how it was duped? if it was the glitch thing where one become two then sure there's 2 "new" hats there; but if it's steam support duping then the replacement is a replica and the hat which was stolen still exists just as it did before? nitpicky, and sure they should be treated as duped, but one is still the original hat in that scenario. There is no "original" though. When valve dupes an item its, literally, an exact copy with the entire history and item ids of the "original". There is no distinction between the original and the copy.
Space Jesus
There are some duped items that don't have out of order ID's though. I've seen a few Weather KE's that are clearly duped if you manually check BP's, but the ID's don't blatantly differ somewhere down the path. Perfect example: http://backpack.tf/item/1307884476 Guy at the top owns it, and a guy 4-5 spots down still owns one with same tags

There is no distinction between the original and the copy. but you just called one the original and the other a copy? Clearly one is the original that actually *has* existed that whole time. They're both duped, one is the original hat and one is a copy, i'm not saying it makes it worth more, and I guess if the histories are the same then they should both show up as duped, but one is the original. One is technically the original, but theres no way to know which one as they're both identical.

∞Ramses
Sometimes it shows as duped, when it isn't, if one of the users in the history has set his/her backpack to private.
