Trading Vs Unboxing

Ok due to the disaster of a post i made a day ago i'd like to apologise to put it simply i acted a little in mature in my post. My point is that during my post i said i'd quit trading and start unboxing but. Unboxing is a gamble and chances are you wont win. So i need you're help in choosing, simply trading vs unboxing.

First i'll write the pro's and con's of both. Write in the comments of anything that i missed:

Trading:

Pros:

-You can choose what you get. Unlike simply gambling which isn't guaranteed

-You can make profit. While unboxing can do the same. Trading is much more safer and more rewarding

Cons:

-May take a long time.

(now i know. There are some more but feel free to suggest)

Unboxing:

Pros:

-Can be profitable

-Be the first one to own the item of any kind (what i mean is that the item hasn't existed yet. And your the only person with that said item)

Cons:

-Can be addicting

-You can lose a lot of money

-It isn't guaranteed

-Might cause frustration

So yeah that's all i can think of. I really need help on whether to unbox or trade thanks.

Get rich quick schemes never work.

If you have the funds, don't care what you get, and get enjoyment from unboxing (while still maintaining control) then unbox. If you get personal enjoyment out of it then good for you, you'll also be helping put more unusuals on the market (hopefully). If any of those things don't apply to you then you probably shouldn't be unboxing.

Sidenote - replace unbox with gamble for a more accurate statement. (Altho I don't think you can deduct unboxes from your taxes like normal gambling can in the US.)

Unboxing for profit is never a good idea. Don't get me wrong, unboxing is fun. As much as it paints me to admit it, I've probably unboxed something in the region of 300-400 crates since I started playing this game. In that time, however, I've probably made back at most 200 overall. (And near half of that is from a single hat), so if it's profit you're after I'd just stick to trading. Like, if I had kept the 300-ish keys I spent on that instead of what is just gambling, I'd be a hell of a lot happier.

Depending on your capital in your inventory, you can do both!

When I was trading a lot some years ago, I would open 25 keys or so every 3 months. I would only use keys I had made from profit instead of spending my own money. Got lucky a few times, but nothing major.

My friend on the other hand unboxes around 600 or so crates every Halloween, and got super lucky and unboxed a Harvest Moon Polar Oullover one year.

But my point is that you can do both by using your profits to unbox

If you're going to unbox. keep it at 5-40 crates max only. Don't be like me. I'm currently at a 500+crate no unusual  streak 😕

Unboxing is fun and I like gambling, but there's a limit :P

If you have money/keys to spend on this game...just buy the unusuals/items you want.

Basically, if there is something specific in mind that you want, just trade for it. Unboxing is essentially just gambling and it can be fun but doing it with profit in mind is dumb. Only unbox with money you're okay with not having.

unboxing is never profitable in long terme it's like casino more you
play more chance casino make money

i think more money was loss in unboxing than win
even if you are lucky you can loss
if you unbox like 200 create you got 3 unusuals very nice but if only value at 30 keys each (not worst value can be less 10 keys) you still loss like 110 keys

only real winner in unboxing is valve

Exception: if there's a glitch. (I unboxed a decent amount of strange normal items this way.)
