Crashing key prices on marketplace?

Some of you may have noticed the steady decline of key prices on marketplace.tf

Currently the price is around $1.80, only a few months ago was it $1.97 about a %10 decrease.

Does anyone know maybe the reasoning for why the large decrease in prices? Also another big thing I noticed was that scrap.tf was basically the one lowering the prices. Scrap.tf kept lowering prices from 1.90->1.86->1.84->1.81 (they usually sell the most keys on marketplace with around 5-15k keys on hand any given day.

An obvious (scammer's ?) ALT https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561197973142203 is quickselling thousands of keys. There were similar accounts before this one. ScrapTF is probably just matching the price.

You can try reporting them at https://marketplace.tf/support but results usually vary. In any case, if MP really wanted to prevent scammers from selling thousands of keys, they would do it.

Are they buying them for that price or selling? If they're buying it's a pretty bad deal, but if they're selling it's a great deal. It might be because of the wildly fluctuating prices on SCM but I am unsure of the reason.

What you are seeing is, people and their impatience in selling their keys, undercutting the next guy and at the end of the day, losing their profit that they worked hard for.  Just leave them at the normal price and they eventually sell.

I am more concerned about why scrap.tf is lowering their prices, they sell the most keys of all the users so they basically dictate the market prices for keys. marketplace sells like 3-5 thousand keys a day and majority of those sales come from scrap.tf

From what I can tell, Scrap.tf just matches the lowest seller, and if not enough are selling, they go lower. I'm assuming theres a quota of amount they need to sell each to day to keep things operational (i.e backpack space), and if not enough are selling they are forced to go lower.

Keys are currently $1.57 in BTC , and $1.59 in usd on chinese/russian sites.

Don't expect it to rise any time soon guys, and has nothing to do with marketplace undercutting. Marketplace is nowhere near the entire market.

ToTH donation selloffs will also likely push keys down further on mp.tf

The site I use has them at $1.55 in BTC. There are multiple large sellers, coupled with a lack of any reason for buyers to have a great spike.

Sellers on the key market, such as Scrap, scammers like scammer alt linked (who i should note was impersonating fishtail,) and ToTH will flood the market every so often.

Because there isn't any event (i can think of at least) that causes the common key to have a great increase in quantity demanded, whenever something greatly increases the quantity being sold, the price drops.

Supply and demand.

does anyone know how to view previous years key prices on mptf? I would like to see the yearly/monthly trend. Hoping prices might increase during holiday season. The graph only tracks/displays about a month...

There was a site tracking them daily. I can't recall the URL, however. If you ask any frequent BPTF suggers, they'll probably know it. Manic something or other iirc.
