AD⚡HD Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I’d say it’s worth about 12-13 ref https://backpack.tf/stats/Strange/Tsar Platinum/Tradable/Craftable you could instantly sell to a bot for 11
3.50 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 For unpriced items like weapon skins and strange cosmetics, you can usually get a good idea of an item's worth by looking on the SCM. To use that Tsar Platinum as an example, it has buy orders and sellers at around $1.10 - 1.30. That tells you it's around half a key, or a bit less. Keys are ~USD$2.45ish if no Steam sale is going on, as a rule of thumb (absolute ceiling is $2.49 from the Mann Co store). Divide item's price by key price to get a general idea of its worth. Look in classifieds for buyers and sellers to cross-reference.

Unless you are planning on selling it on scm, I’d look at the buyers and sellers first, scm prices are more work, less accurate and can have large differences from the trading value.

Absolutely, consider buyers/sellers on the medium you'll be using to buy/sell as the main source of your price info. I trade almost exclusively on the SCM when I bother to trade at all; classified prices are only a secondary source of price info for me, so I listed the SCM first out of habit.

How do you trade on scm?

Primarily by using buy orders to get items for cheap, then reselling them for a tidy profit. The other big one is that when you keep your eyes open, you can get great deals on higher-tier effects as since the SCM considers all effects of an Unusual to be a single item, some people will just make their hat the cheapest overall on the market, regardless of effect. Same with things like spells and parts. Doing things like that is the primary way I build up my unusual collection.
