New Scam?

Recommended Posts

I'm a newer Steam user, I have used Steam for almost two years. I've gathered a considerable number of Steam friends, but to them I've always sent the friend invite. Recently, I have gotten several friend requests from these "girl" accounts. They have a cringey Instagram-style profile pic of some girl and they only own one or two free games. Their profile description always reads the same thing, it's something like: "Hi! I am little cute girl ;) Add me to play games, because I need friends". I added one, but they just sat on my friends list. I later blocked them. I got three more requests after that; I blocked every single one. More recently, I have gotten other friend requests from people that claim they play Team Fortress 2 (the game I play most often). Again, they only sit on my friends list. But yesterday, one whose request I accepted more recently said in the chat:

Them: Hello

Me: Hi

Them: Hey

Them: I have a question

Me: What

Me (30 min later): What's your question?

As of now they still have not responded. I'm not sure what this could be. Regarding the fake "girl" profiles, I did some research and found it happens very often across Steam that some male players feel the need to pretend they are female. I'm wondering if this is the case or they are scammers. As for the other profiles, I am leaving them on my Friends list for now.

Phew, that was a lot to write down. Please reply as to what you think this is, it would be greatly appreciated! If you have had a similar experience, write that down too. Thanks!

UPDATE: I have removed every single one of those profiles. However, I haven't blocked them, but I haven't heard from them since.

Probably some sort of cat-fishing bot/scam. Should just avoid them. The profiles could just be grills to get people to accept the inv, then send them a phishing link. Either way they seem like bots. Also csgo gambling bots are all over the place, just block them too. A site would be broke to give anything more than like 10 cents for free to every user.

I recently started getting them too.  So far they all link to one profile if you copy paste the steam profile into rep.tf..  just block and report them
